This is an urban walking reflection on the main aims of urbanism and how they have been applied in the @22 district in Poblenou. This was once a neighborhood full of small factories that is now being revitalized in an attempt to recapture the spirit of it’s industrial heyday. While we try to catch some of the stardust coming off the Media-TIC building (2011 WAF winner: World Building of the Year) and rub shoulders with architecture’s brightest stars, we’ll talk about independence, patents, parametric architecture, cradle to cradle, superblocks, the carbon footprint and, of course, Ildefons Cerdà, the Master and Founder of Barcelona’s gridded plan.

5.00I reached out to this group because I was coming to Barcelona to conduct research for a public anthropology project I am doing called Women’s Work. I wanted to understand the Superblocks and print myself to the area before meeting with women’s cooperatives working on feminist urbanism. Daniela was my tour guide, and not only was she highly knowledgeable and lovely to be with, she helped connect my needs to our four hours together in a way that maximized my time. The communication before my tour was excellent and reassuring, and I felt the investment I made to do this tour with this group upon arrival was well worth it and supported the rest of my visit. Highly recommend this group and will book with them again when in the area.

5.00I would strongly recommend this tour. Pia is an architect and a professor which makes her a wealth of knowledge. She shared so much history which was fascinating while also giving us insights into living in Barcelona.

5.00Our tour with Jelena was absolutely extraordinary! She is a gifted guide and teacher, and we each valued and enjoyed our time with her immensely. We were captivated by the way she taught us about Barcelona's architectural past, present, and future. She expanded our perspectives and enlightened our minds. She immersed us in Barcelona's history and culture, and she situated both in the wider national and international context. In doing so, she helped us to see Barcelona in a way we never could have done on our own. Personally, she has a lovely positive spirit and seemingly boundless energy. We are deeply appreciative to her for sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm for Barcelona with us!

5.00Barcelona Architecture Walks are usual in a city full of options for tourists. Jelena, our guide, helped us understand where politics meet urban planning in the city. She wanted to share her knowledge and make us reflect on and compare the cities that we knew.

5.00This was our second (annual!) tour with Carmen and it was as great as the first one in the summer of 2022. She is a wealth of professional architectural information and her love of the city really shines through. Thoroughly recommend all the tours for those hoping to get an "insider" perspective on the planning and architecture of the city.

5.00I wished I had done this tour at the beginning or mid-way through my trip to Barcelona, because the background and depth of information I gleaned from this tour helped me appreciate the evolution and understanding of Barcelona as a city. Our guide was passionate and her knowledge of the subject was genuine and unsurpassed. We went as a family, and my kids were generally able to glean something on the subject as they are used to being informed about Architecture and planning. However due to the depth that can be discussed during the tour, adults will benefit from it the most.

5.00My husband and I attended the Barcelona and The Future City tour led by Pia. This was my third trip to Barcelona and it was a treat to see a different, less touristy side of the city. While we did touch significantly on the unique architecture in this area, Pia is a fountain of knowledge on urban planning and civil engineering involving Spanish structures as well as those around the world. I can't imagine a more knowledgable tour guide and I imagine any tour topic would be fantastic.

5.00We were a group of 20 architects who did the Barcelona and the future walk with Pia and it was amazing. Pia had an excellent insight in Barcelonas history and through a network of facts and parallels we were left with a much better understanding of the history, the present and the future of Barcelona and the modern european city in general. She communicated it all so easily with fun and humours facts and was open for questions and discussions along the way. This became a highlight of our studytrip. Very much recommended.

5.00My partner and I did the Barcelona and the Future tour with Pia and it was outstanding, the highlight of our trip to this fantastic city. Pia is incredibly knowledgeable and interesting, and our three hour tour felt like an entire course in Barcelona's history from the Romans to now, including its geography, politics, culture, and social history. Pia showed us maps of the different stages of Barcelona's built history to give us a sense of how the city developed and why, and she could answer any and every question we had so we came away with a much deeper understanding of the city in general. We learned about the design and structure of recent buildings by star architects as well as other buildings around them, and we heard about the larger urban plan for the future of Barcelona, including the famous Superblocks. We wish we had more time to do the other tours because this was a fabulous opportunity to have a deep and thoughtful conversation with an expert about the city.

5.0010 stars! My husband and I LOVED our tour of the area surrounding Disseny Hub. Our tour leader, Pia, was fabulous -- smart, funny, knowledgable, gracious and not afraid to share her opinions. We especially enjoyed learning about the government of Barcelona's emphasis on architecture, a conscious decision resulting in a city with world class spaces that contribute to the vitality and energy of the city as a whole. This tour underlines what a city governed by people with vision, a strong sense of community, and will can do for its inhabitants.
