Batu Caves

Batu Caves is a limestone hill that has a series of caves and cave temples in Gombak, Selangor. The limestone forming Batu Caves is said to be around 400 million years old. Some of the cave entrances were used as shelters by the indigenous Temuan people (a tribe of Orang Asli). The cave is one of the most popular Hindu shrines outside India, and is dedicated to Lord Murugan. It is the focal point of the Hindu festival of Thaipusam in Malaysia. Batu Caves in short also referred as 10th Caves or Hill for Lord Muruga as there are six important holy shrines in India and four more in Malaysia. The three others in Malaysia are Kallumalai Temple in Ipoh, Tanneermalai Temple in Penang and Sannasimalai Temple in Malacca. Note: Keeping your eyes open to be aware of the monkeys. Don’t feed them! Hold cameras close and use a neck strap if you have one. Please don’t carry any plastic bags, monkeys will aggressive on this.

    Beautiful Batu Caves Experience – Come Prepared for the Steps! Visiting the Batu Caves was an unforgettable experience. The towering golden statue and the colorful steps leading up to the cave temples are absolutely stunning in person. That said, be prepared for a good workout—there are a lot of steps to climb, so I’d recommend having at least a medium level of fitness. Take your time, bring water, and wear comfortable shoes! Unfortunately, the hot springs tour was closed when we arrived, which was a bit of a letdown. It would’ve been great to know that in advance, but these things can happen. Thankfully, our tour guide was excellent—very attentive, informative, and made sure the group was well looked after throughout the day. We also visited a waterfall, which looked lovely, but it was extremely crowded since we went on a weekend. It was impossible to take a dip or enjoy the area fully with so many people around. If you’re considering this trip, I’d definitely suggest going on a weekday for a more relaxed and enjoyable experience. Overall, despite a couple of setbacks, it was still a worthwhile day out. The Batu Caves alone are a must-see!

    This was a private tour, which was great as we had as much time as we wanted and could be flexible with our destinations. Lunch was amazing and our guide Indran was so helpful, funny and knowledgeable. The waterfalls are ok, we hiked to the top. The Batu caves were hot and busy but interesting the Royal Selangor tour was just great! Don’t miss this trip it was amazing

  • The hot springs are CLOSED. This is a fake tour. You cannot see the hot springs.

    Yes, the major feature of this tour - the hot springs attraction- have been closed since last month. Yet both the tour operator and Viator allow this to continue. Shame on you! We spent a lot of money only to arrive and be disappointed by not being able to access the main attraction. Avoid!

    Our driver was so knowledgeable about our tour sites and Malaysia in general. The pewter factory wes very interesting. We had no idea they made so many things. The Batu Caves were amazing, we climbed to the top, what a view. Many thanks to our driver for the background stories.
