Ready to experience the Sami culture? In this tour, we take you to a Sami family so you can see how they live and try different Sami activities like lasso-throwing. That's the way Sami people catch their reindeer. When you have caught the reindeer you also get allowed to feed them! Enjoy a light refreshment in a heated cabin.
This activity also fits well for kids 6 and above.
This tour does not include reindeer sledding.

This excursion is suitable for both adults and children 6+. Our journey to Lavangsdalen takes approximately 30 minutes by bus each way. Once there, we will be greeted by a Sami family who will share fascinating insights into the history of the Sami people. You will even have the opportunity to feed reindeer and try your hand at throwing lasso on reindeer antlers (if there will be a time), just like the Sami do when herding reindeer. Enjoy a light refreshment in a heated cabin during the tour. This tour is perfect for families, and kids aged 6 and up can join in the fun! It is a great way for everyone to learn about Sami culture together! While you are there, do not miss out on the chance to buy a real handmade Sami product. Each item is unique and perfect as a gift or a special souvenir from your trip. You can relax with a light snack in a warm cabin during the tour, and with our small group size (max 32 people), you will enjoy a personal experience with our guides and a new friends.

5.00Off all the tours we did in Tromso, we loved this one the most! Beautiful surroundings, adorable reindeer, and interesting stories from the Sami people. Transportation to and from the farm was also well-organized. This is a must do when in Tromso.

5.00Dress warm! The reindeers are adorable. We fed them bread and apparently they love bread! It’s a dessert to them! We learned so much about the Sami people. Michel and the other guide were such gracious hosts. The Sami hut was nice and warm and we got to shop at a genuine Sami gift shop on the grounds after. Half the reindeer are very shy and the other half are very friendly!

1.00DO NOT BOOK! I traveled 4,000 miles from home and this was one of the experiences that I was most excited about to meet the reindeer, enjoy nature and hear about Sami culture. Just a day before I received an email stating this: “Hi, I hope you are doing well. Due to some recent capacity adjustments—and to ensure you can enjoy even more daylight during the activity—we would be happy to offer you the option to join an earlier departure at 09:45 instead. Please let us know at your earliest convenience if this new time would suit you. Thank you very much for your understanding. Warm regards, Lucie” Then followed by a WhatsApp text message AFTER I received an email that my reservation was canceled. I simply mentioned that I couldn’t do the 9:45am due to a previous engagement that was planned for that day and I booked noon. Instead of confirming to cancel my reservation all together. I didn’t receive a call, WhatsApp phone call and when I called three times, no answer. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. I was refunded but what does this do when all the other companies were not available? So what? They overbooked? No professional explanation. Avoid at all costs and Viator was not able to assist me further. When you spend $$$$ per person, you expect a level of service that was not what I received. A kind phone call back.

5.00The reindeer experience was one of the best things I have ever experienced. The animals are so lovely and really enjoyed the food we fed them they were a real joy. The Sami people who ran the camp were incredible people. They really care for the reindeer and were a model of how we all should live and care for our environment. Definitely a bucket list trip. Really made me think about how we live in comparison

5.00This was a lot of fun! The trip was about 30-35 minutes each way from Tromso. The bus did leave on time. There is an "outhouse" type bathroom facility on the property. Dress WARM. You are outside for a good portion of the stay. Feeding the reindeer was so much fun. Selfishly, I wish there were a few that were more "pets" that way they would want to hang out with you when you didn't have food. When you're out of food to give them they have no interest in you. They did serve a warm drink and snack and shared a bit about their culture. There were about 15ish on this trip, maybe not even that many. It was the right amount, so that you could still enjoy yourself!

5.00Amazing day with the reindeer and learning about the Sami culture. The tour was plentiful and did not feel rushed. They gave us plenty of food and time for photos with the reindeer. The refreshments were plentiful. Our guides were friendly and full of knowledge. Transportation was prompt and comfortable.

5.00This was the most incredible experience from start to finish. Very small group and once we arrived we went straight into feeding hundreds of beautiful reindeers. The Sami were so friendly and it was great to hear about their life and more about their reindeers. Absolutely incredible
