East African cuisine has had influences from Indian, French, British, Egyptian and Turkish flavours to name a few. In a journey through the sub Saharan Africa, taste the blends of spices, in a bowl of fufu, a warm piece of Injera (Ethiopian bread) or matoki (lamb stew). Sudan's more common foods are kisira (a type of pancake), rice, asida (ugali, or stiff porridge), and fish. In Ethiopia, typical foods would be injera/firfir, kichah (spiced pancake), dabo (bread), and bula (ensete, or stiff porridge). These are normally served with a variety of hot sauces (wat, or watt) on one large tray for the entire family.

The Footscray Foodie Trail in Melbourne's west is a culinary hotspot! 🍴👌 Our tour took us to heaps of diverse eateries, cafes, Footscray Market and food shops serving up everything from Vietnamese banh mi to African cuisine and Indian curries. It's a real melting pot of flavors! 🌮🌯 The trail's all about exploring the local food scene, meeting the people behind the produce, and enjoying the unique flavors of Footscray. I highly recommend this tour & am telling my friends to give it a go - you won’t be disappointed.

Kim, our guide, was vibrant, engaging and very knowledgeable. The tour highlighted the mix of cultures and, importantly, foods that make Footscray so interesting. While I live in Melbourne I rarely go to Footscray and this was a great reminder of what a fabulous foodie place it is. We enjoyed fantastic Italian cannoli, the best Bahn mi I think I have ever had, a first introduction to Ethiopian food, India masala chai and Filipino inspired gelato. Wow!!!! Now I have had this guided tour around foodie Footscray I am inspired to return and do some more of exploring. So come and be a tourist in your own city. It’s great!!!!

Our tour of Footscray with Annaliese was an interesting excursion into some different culinary worlds, particularly those of Ethiopia and Somalia. Overall it was a really good experience and we managed to taste a variety of dishes. The only addition we would suggest might be to get into one of the restaurant kitchens to see the preparation.
Come hungry to eat and explore!

Such a great tour! Footscray is an area I rarely visit in Melbourne, but now I feel confident that I can go over there and find some great places to eat. Himanshi was a fantastic guide, filled with great stories and cultural and historical anecdotes that tied into the food we ate. And the food was delicious! But don't eat breakfast beforehand... I was absolutely stuffed!! Great tour and I'm looking forward to doing another one with them.
