Step aboard the Grand Canyon Railway for a trip to the majestic Grand Canyon you'll never forget. Feel the rumble of a vintage train as the engine chugs 65-miles (approximately 105 km) across the beautiful Northern Arizona countryside. The train offers kaleidoscopic views of the San Francisco Peaks and rolls through valleys adorned in wild flowers, dense pine forests, high desert plains and small canyons.

This exciting and scenic ride begins at the historic 1908 Williams Depot where you will be entertained by a Wild West shootout featuring the Cataract Creek Gang in an outdoor theater. Shop in one of two gift shops, or enjoy a hearty buffet breakfast (not included) before departure at the Grand Depot Cafe next to the depot. Then, hear the train whistle pierce the fresh morning air, beckoning passengers for a trip on the old iron horse to the Grand Canyon. Uniformed coach attendants provide you with white-gloved courtesy and service. Aboard the train, enjoy the tunes of strolling musicians who conduct sing-a-longs, an Old West train robbery, and the antics of western characters as they recreate train travel as it was back in 1901. This train will arrive into the historic 1910 Grand Canyon Depot, the only remaining log depot still in operation in the United States. Buildings like the El Tovar Hotel, Hopi House and Bright Angel Lodge salute arriving guests as you pull into the station and disembark from the train. Choose between coach class seating which are streamline era coaches built in the 1950's and are air-conditioned and heated in the cooler months. Soft drinks and bottled water are available for purchase on board. Upgrade to first class and enjoy the opulence of oversized, reclining seats with extra-large viewing windows and at-seat cocktail service (no host bar) aboard First Class. Cars are air-conditioned and you can help yourself to complimentary morning refreshments of fresh fruits, pastries, juices, teas and coffee. Enjoy snacks from the buffet on the afternoon trip. Please note: adult prices include a USD15 National Park Fee.

5.00Delightful ride and tour. We elected the 1st class tickets to include a meal and tour and were very satisfied with our seats, the meal and the tour. Morris was our train car guide and he was very helpful and friendly. The ambiance of the train was fun and enjoyed the snacks and beverages both going to and coming from the Grand Canyon. Great experience for the entire family. Highly recommend this trip for first timers to the area.

5.00Absolutely a blast! This was an incredible way to visit the Grand Canyon. The entertainment on the train was fantastic—full of music, humor, and personality. Our guide, Johnny Arizona, was especially memorable. He shared fun facts and stories that brought real meaning to both the Grand Canyon and the state of Arizona—insights you’d never get from an online search! The whole experience was top-notch and truly unforgettable. Highly recommend. A great bonus: the train drops you off right at the South Rim, so there’s no need to worry about transportation or parking at the Grand Canyon. That convenience alone made the trip worth it!

First time on a train and it did not go well

1.00I bought this trip for my mom who came out of town. I originally bought them for 8:30am and to my surprise they moved the departure for 9:15am. I was fine with this because we were rushing in the morning in a hotel we stayed at and we woke up at 5:30am to go to the Railway and not be late. There was also no information stating that the tickets needed to be printed out in a building near the train in advance. If you didn't do this you were not going to be let in the train. After starting our journey the train stopped and started going back constantly. My husband told me "it might be something with the motor" and a worker there explained that they were having motor issues and that was the reason the train was going back. I understand that this is not the crews fault and that this incident was out of their control but I would have wished that someone explained what was actually going on. We were told that they sent for help to pick us up and the trip was delayed another 2 hours. At this point food ran out and all the passenger were hungry, again not the worker's fault as they did try to accommodate. We got to the Grand Canyon at around 3:30pm and we needed to start heading back at 4:45pm to depart at 5:15pm. While we were heading back the train stopped again and we were told it would take 10 minutes but we instead waited there for another hour or so. We finally got to Williams at around 8:00pm way behind of schedule. Now me and my family needed to drive to our home in Phoenix and it was a 3 hour drive. We got home at 12:00am and we were and still are exhausted. The concept and the trip itself was fun and the crew working inside the train were playing music and trying their best to entertain us. However this was our first time riding a train and doing a trip like this and I hope to God that something like this never happens to anyone else. Clear communication should have been given to the passengers and a lot of us including myself are asking for a refund for the trip on 12/27 at 9:15AM.

5.00Last minute purchase. Went up on handicapped car. Back on 1st class. Booked a tour and lunch. Had the best time. Side note: grew up near GC. I’ve been 14 times. 1st time on train. This is the best way to go. Missed all the congestion. Highly recommend train.
Save and visit park on your own

3.00While it was pricey and long in duration. The actors did try to make it enjoyable. I paid extra for bus ride in park with buffet. To my surprise only 2 stops and since only 18 people on the bus we did not receive buffet lunch but only 1 entree of choice from menu. Could have saved the extra $20 a piece and got own meal on the side. Not what expected.

3.00Did the train. First Class up on Saturday morning and back Sunday afternoon. The organization, service and entertainment was very good. Price was a little high but what are the other train options? None. Really not that much to see on the ride - bleak desert and a few trees when you get closer. You will not see the canyon from the train. The more expensive dome car seats are not needed or worth it. Recommend the FC over Coach as the seating is much superior although the trip back had us in seats facing another couple. Restricting leg room which was disappointing. The trip up was in a car that had all seats facing the same way. The real recommendation in this review is not to stay over at the Canyon. You have lots of time to see the canyon with a same day up and back trip. The canyon hotels are expensive and very tired. Just not enough to do between 11AM Saturday and 2PM Sunday.
