Step aboard the Grand Canyon Railway for a trip to the majestic Grand Canyon you'll never forget. Feel the rumble of a vintage train as the engine chugs 65-miles (approximately 105 km) across the beautiful Northern Arizona countryside. The train offers kaleidoscopic views of the San Francisco Peaks and rolls through valleys adorned in wild flowers, dense pine forests, high desert plains and small canyons.

This exciting and scenic ride begins at the historic 1908 Williams Depot where you will be entertained by a Wild West shootout featuring the Cataract Creek Gang in an outdoor theater. Shop in one of two gift shops, or enjoy a hearty buffet breakfast (not included) before departure at the Grand Depot Cafe next to the depot. Then, hear the train whistle pierce the fresh morning air, beckoning passengers for a trip on the old iron horse to the Grand Canyon. Uniformed coach attendants provide you with white-gloved courtesy and service. Aboard the train, enjoy the tunes of strolling musicians who conduct sing-a-longs, an Old West train robbery, and the antics of western characters as they recreate train travel as it was back in 1901. This train will arrive into the historic 1910 Grand Canyon Depot, the only remaining log depot still in operation in the United States. Buildings like the El Tovar Hotel, Hopi House and Bright Angel Lodge salute arriving guests as you pull into the station and disembark from the train. Choose between coach class seating which are streamline era coaches built in the 1950's and are air-conditioned and heated in the cooler months. Soft drinks and bottled water are available for purchase on board. Upgrade to first class and enjoy the opulence of oversized, reclining seats with extra-large viewing windows and at-seat cocktail service (no host bar) aboard First Class. Cars are air-conditioned and you can help yourself to complimentary morning refreshments of fresh fruits, pastries, juices, teas and coffee. Enjoy snacks from the buffet on the afternoon trip. Please note: adult prices include a USD15 National Park Fee.

This was a fun trip. If you had kids they would have really enjoyed it. they have singers and a sheriff that makes the kids Jr. Deputies as well as a train robbery on the way back. All expect tips of course, however didn't feel pressured to give. Its not very scenic its mostly flat high desert until you get almost to the park. We had a really good car attendent on the way up who was fun, told lots of stories and made the trip up interesting. we booked coach up and 1 class on the way back. You have about 3 hours at the south rim. It was plenty for us. ( we are in our 60's) We packed a lunch and ate at one of the many tables and benches on the rim trail. Personally I would not bother with booking lunch in the resurants, it wastes too much of the 3 hours you have. Over all a pleasant trip

I did a lot of research before booking our train trip, and I found A LOT of people saying - skip the train, it makes the ride longer - just drive yourself. I'm so glad I ignored them. My 7-year old is quite the train enthusiast, and we've never done a train ride that actually took us somewhere (just rides that go out and return you to the same spot 15-30mins later), so this was a really unique fun find for her. I had no desire to rent a car this trip, so this was pretty nice for me too - we managed to take a National Park Express bus to Williams from Vegas, and then the train from Williams to the Grand Canyon - and mommy did no driving whatsoever :) Not being the one driving means you are free to enjoy the trip - and we really did. We booked the dome seats on the way to the canyon, and when we returned a few days later we did the 1st class. I had seen so many good reviews about both levels I couldn't decide which made the most sense. Dome level was fun because its a neat experience - I think especially though because we wound up in the very first row of our car. On the other hand, 1st class below it is less expensive, and you have more legroom. If doing it again, I would do it exactly how I did - one way checking out the dome just to experience it, but the other down below because its actually a little more comfortable and a little cheaper lol. Both levels get snacks and drinks which is really nice. On the route out its fruit and pastries (I recommend getting a real breakfast before you board the train - this is a nice 2nd breakfast but if we hadn't eaten first it wouldn't have been enough food - and they ran out of the breakfast stuff quickly on our trip). Snacks on the way back are veggies and dip, meat and cheese. Seemed like the "lunchy' snacks were more plentiful, and didn't run out the way the breakfast snacks had. Entertainment was delightful both ways - and both times our host and hostess on the train - who gets your drinks if you order them, also gave lots of info and they were both super helpful. I will say, the cowboy pre-show before you board on the way to the canyon, and the cowboy robbery on the train on the way back....fell a little flat. My kid was bored during the preshow....it seemed like only one of the three cowboys mics worked, so you could only hear parts of the show. And though my kid was excited about them boarding the train....it just felt fast and rushed to me. I had read people say they ride along the train and board - so I was disappointed to see one rider out there, and then that the train actually stopped for the "boarding". I feel like it could be done better. But on the flip side, the cowboy show was not what the ride was about for us, so no big deal that it wasn't that great lol. We did the package through the Grand Canyon Railway that included a night in Williams, tickets on the train, 2 nights in the Grand Canyon and a night in Williams after we returned. Everything about the trip - and moving out heavy suitcases - was seamless. I really appreciated how they do all of that back and forth luggage transferring for you (and its the reason to stay at the Grand Canyon Railway hotel vs somewhere else in town). Also I highly recommend picking a package that includes staying in the canyon - trying to do the train out and back in one day doesn't do the Grand Canyon justice. Other note, just because I read someone complaining about 1st Class seating - if you are only a party of 2, not 4, the seats can be swiveled to face the front instead of you facing strangers. I don't know why nobody tells you this (neither our trip out or back did the attendant like announce this about the seats), but we witnessed someone moving there's so we were able to ask the attendant to help us flip ours so we were just our two seats. You'll also notice if you see the 4-seats facing each other configuration, some of them have a little table and some don't. If you want a table, it slides in, so just ask, they keep them up above the seats in those little luggage areas.

Great journey up to the canyon. Guide on the train, Teril was fantastic with her stories and on board musician was brilliant! Highly recommend doing.

The train ride was great, and the entertainment, while a bit silly, was still enjoyable. Our attendant Maria was hilarious and had lots of interesting information about the train, the terrain and the canyon. She was the highlight of our ride. We went on a bus tour that included lunch and we were able to be amazed by each stop we took. Highly recommend taking in the canyon via the train trip.

This train ride to the Grand Canyon was a great experience. The train was on time, the staff was friendly and shared their knowledge of the topography of the land. The staff was very entertaining and kept us laughing while riding on the train. I would highly recommend this experience!
Sheryl was our Train Guide and phenomenal! She truly loves her job! She told us all kinds of info for the train, flora & fauna!

Be prepared for a full day of traveling. Booking the train and tour is a great thing. You get to see multiple photo opportunistic spots and you don't have to walk or drive so you get just relax and learn a little. All aspects were great but the attendant we had on our train car (Craig) was the best. Everything had an awesome atmosphere to it.

I had accidentally booked the wrong date (1 day off), but McKenzie and Keith were able to help me out and get me sorted with only minutes to spare. I appreciate their patience and helpfulness. Our boys loved the train of course. We traveled in the Pullman car.
