Why follow the crowd when you can flip the script? Our award-winning reverse itinerary tour from Melbourne takes you on a wild and wonderful adventure along the Great Ocean Road – backwards! That means more sights, fewer people, and a whole lot more fun.
We kick things off by heading inland straight to the Twelve Apostles –jaw-dropping views and fresh morning light perfect for photos. From there, we explore the stunning Shipwreck Coast, hitting up Loch Ard Gorge, The Razorback, Gibson Steps, and of course, the iconic Apostles.
Then, we switch gears and head into nature with a peaceful rainforest walk through ancient, towering trees.
On the way back, we cruise the coast through charming towns like Apollo Bay and Lorne. And yes – we guarantee wild koala sightings, plus a good chance of spotting kangaroos bouncing through the bush.
So if you're after a laid-back, wildlife-packed, photo-worthy adventure that skips the stress and doubles the fun–this is the tour for you.

We are not able to accommodate children under 7 years of age on this tour, as according to VicRoads regulations they must travel on child restraints, which are not available in our minibuses. Passengers who show up with under 7 years old kids will be refused boarding without refund.

This is a small groups tour and the vehicles are 12 seaters minibuses Toyota Hiace or similar. In case extra room is required, send us a message so we can arrange large coaches option.

5.00Wayne was exceptional from the start- Friendly, knowledgeable, and accomodating. The day was well planned and the van very comfortable. Wayne had much insight to share regarding the area, animals, landscape, etc. A wonderful day was had by our family of nine and of all ages!! Wayne made sure we topped off our day with a view of multiple kangaroos!

4.00Jimmy was a great guide taking care of his customers and giving good insights into the area. He picked us up on time 6.30am. Dropped us off at 6.30pm. There was sufficient time at each stop. Lunch was good at a great restaurant in Apollo Bay. On the way we saw a koala and a kangaroo by chance. Jimmy stopped the bus so we could take some photos. Would do it again as the scenery is breathtaking. There were 10 passengers in a minivan. Friendly group and Jimmy made us feel at home.

5.00We had a wonderful day on this tour with Marty! The sites were beautiful and even though we went in holiday season, Marty tried his best for us to avoid lots of crowds, which we did! We also saw some koalas and kangaroos on our journey. We are really glad we chose this tour and company, would recommend them to everyone!

5.00We had a really good day. Doing the trip in reverse definitely recommended- it meant we avoided the crowds. Each of the stops was memorable, and our guide Kev was knowledgable and helpful. All in all a great day out!
Anne's perfect hospitality and a memorable day in Great Ocean Road & Melbourne

5.00Overall an outstanding day out with Anne. She was kind to pick us up from a South Melbourne hotel at 6.20 am. Anne with her high energy, kind hospitality, and experience of the Great Ocean Road and surroundings created a great experience by showing and relaying about things all the way from Melbourne to back. She covered everything extensively including 12 Apostles, Great Otway National Park, Mait's Rest, The Shipwreck Walk, The Great Ocean Road memorial arch, Apollo Bay. The drive of Apollo Bay to Lorne was spectacular with views and commentary from Anne. We were also lucky to see Qualas, Kangaroos during the day and along the drive. While all of these happened Anne ensured that we had the best food experience. The breakfast and coffee started at Routleys (baking since 1947), lunch stop was at Apollo Bay (many options, we tried Georges), and an ice-cream / coffee stop at Great Ocean Road Chocolate and Ice-Creamery (try out unique options like Banana Split, Snickers, Berry). The crowd size of the tour was also apt at 10 of us which allowed a customized experience. The length of the visit was perfect at exact 12 hours (we started from hotel at 6.20 am and was dropped back at 6.30 pm, it was perfect for our return flight at 10.00 pm). All admission fees were covered within the trip and we did not need to pay any additional fees. Anne also created enough photo opportunities for everyone in the trip and struck conversations which brought the group together to have a fun and enjoyable experience for life. Overall a great holiday experience and a special 10 on 10 for the tour guide ANNE. Hit the Road Tours needs guides like her to make everyone's experience memorable.

5.00We had an absolutely amazing time on the "Reverse Great Ocean Road" tour with Hit the Road. If you are looking for a fuss-free experience that avoids the massive crowds, this is the tour to book. Our guide, James, was the best guide ever. He was incredibly knowledgeable and shared so many unique hints and tips throughout the day that we never would have discovered on our own. What truly stood out was how considerate he was of my elderly mum; he went above and beyond to ensure she was comfortable, safe, and able to enjoy every stop at her own pace. The sights were amazing, and because we did the route in reverse, we had many of the iconic viewpoints almost to ourselves. We saw Koalas and Kangaroos galore in the wild. For the quality of service and the itinerary provided, this tour is exceptional value. Highly recommended for all ages!

5.00We had a great experience traveling with our amazing guide- Mr. Jimmy Chan. He was friendly, passionate and very knowledgeable about all the locations we visited (including tips for best food, least crowded toilets etc) & made our trip very entertaining. Highly recommended.

5.00Had such a great experience on this tour! Our tour guide, Jimmy Chen, was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. He took us to so many great spots and knew the best locations and even the best bathroom spots with the least people. Also, during the drive, he had a great playlist that matched very well alongside the ocean drive. Overall, Jimmy did a great job meticulously planning!
