LOCAL WILDLIFE & TREES:
On this tour, you will spot bald eagles in the trees and (if the season is right) salmon spawning.
Wild berries along the path: edible and clean. Your guide is familiar with all local berries and mushrooms!
EXPERIENCE THE RAINFOREST:
We will talk about the way the mountains, forest, and ocean have been traditionally used, and are still used today, for subsistence, foraging & hunting by the Tlingit.
HIKE SAFELY:
Your guide will give a hiking-safety briefing before entering the National Forest. We monitor trail conditions to ensure that these hikes are completely safe. Our guides have years of experience on these trails.

Here the hike will discuss the imperial history of this land: your guide will discuss the Russian history of Sitka, as well as the Russian Orthodox Church, and the impact of Russian colonization on the Alaskan national forest.
The first stop on the tour is in front of picturesque Crescent Harbor. The guide will explain the daily workings of a fishing town in Alaska from the personal perspective of a commercial and charter fisherman.

A Great Day Hiking in the Tongass National Forest with Guide Sadie

5.00This adventure was our favorite while cruising in Alaska. There’s limited time to experience nature with just a few hours in port, but this was the perfect outing. Sadie, our guide, picked us up at the cruise dock and drove us into the Tongass National Forest. She was very personable, talkative and knowledgeable about Sitka and Alaskan nature. She brought us into a beautiful mountain valley where we began our hike up to Beaver Lake. It was truly beautiful in every aspect. As a temperate rainforest, we viewed waterfalls all around, tall wooded forests, muskeg bogs and beautiful Beaver Lake. Sadie was a fully competent and patient hiker/guide. She provided information all along the way, pointing out waterfalls, fauna, and trees, describing each one and answered all of our questions. It was one of many rainy days in the Alaskan rain forest and this only added to the natural beauty of the area. We fully recommend Sitka Walking Tours & Sadie as your guide. This was a moderate and wet hike, but with the proper rain gear, it was a great day in Sitka, Alaska.

5.00Brie was a fantastic guide who is extremely knowledgeable and a native of Sitka. The meeting spot is really convenient and located right where the cruise ship shuttle drops off and picks up.
