Unfortunately our session was canceled due to poor visibility and thunderstorms. Our guide Shota was able to cancel our reservation without a cancellation fee, and we will reschedule for a later date.

I got a lot of viator points, so I looked for nearby activities and joined. In a nutshell, it was good. Even locals may not realize that there was a place in such a private house where astronomical observations could be made, but it is soothing. It happened to be a full moon and sunny.

We haven’t been to any observatory before and our visit is a new experience for us. We have nothing to compared with. We saw the moon, with an image somewhat better than my Sony camera RX10M4, but significantly brighter. Jupiter is of a bigger dot than with naked eye. The Mars appeared as a dot has a slight tint of brown compared to naked eye. We were able to see a burning star further than the Sun blinking somewhat furiously. The conversations with the guide was interesting for novice like us. We went away with a good feeling that we have had a new experience, yet somewhat felt a bit let down for not able to see more. Maybe my expectation was unrealistic.

We were treated to a wonderful tour by our knowledgeable guide Shota. He invoked a sense of curiosity in me that I had forgotten and helped to provided an unforgettable experience. We went on a clear day and could see Mars, Jupiter and Sirius clearly. The telescope showed us the brilliance of the moon and I could see the craters clearly. Shota facilitated a great tour, providing helpful information and gave us clear views and explanations of what we were looking at. We were clueless before we walked into the tour but we left with nothing but awe. Highly recommended activity and an unforgettable experience.

I’m a huge fan of , and when I visited Kurashiki, I unexpectedly discovered this stargazing tour. It was the best stargazing experience I’ve ever had! The guide, Shota, was extremely friendly, enthusiastic, and very experienced. Although the weather wasn’t great, and we could only see Jupiter and Mars, Shota was still very passionate and took the time to introduce me to the history of the Kurashiki Observatory. They provided hot drink, lounge chair, and blanket at the site, but because I was so excited, I didn’t use anything except the hot drink! Not only is Shota a great guide, but he’s also a wonderful conversation partner. We talked about , and he even helped me take a picture of my custom figma with the observatory telescope! I was really happy! I’m so lucky to have had the chance to join this tour. It was truly an amazing experience!

If you are interested in embracing your inner nerd (and most of us have one, don’t we?) check out the private observatory in Kurashiki. Shoti met me on the street in front of the observatory and led me into this hidden gem. I sat on a recliner with a heated blanket (it was January, so the evening was a bit chilly) and I sipped the tea and ate the chocolates that Shoti brought to me. He told me about the history of the observatory and discussed the different objects that we were going to see in the night sky, including the moon, Jupiter and its moons, Mars, Sirius, and Betelgeuse. There is more than one telescope in the observatory, so while I looked through one telescope, he set up a different one. It was an enjoyable evening.

We had am amazing evening from start to finish. Shota-san was waiting for us outside the observatory as communicated and explained the history of the site as well as what we can expect to see that evening. We could communicate effectively in English so I recommend it to anyone without fear of language barrier. We could be seated in comfy chairs (with heated blankets) but we were so excited to have a look through the telescope we hardly sat down. We were fortunate to have decent visibility which made the experince even more memorable. For anyone wanting to go off the touristic Kurashiki sight seeing route, this experience is highly recommended.

This is a great, laidback experience! Unfortunately, it was really cloudy the night we booked the experience, but we did get to see the moon at least. And our guide was very knowledgeable and told us all about the telescope and history of the observatory. I highly recommend this!
