  As a fan of Stranger Things, I was genuinely excited to see this. Visually, the special effects were impressive — but sadly, that’s where the positives ended for me. The rest didn’t live up to the hype. Dialogue was often lost in excessive shouting, making it difficult to follow the story. The plot felt chaotic and lacked emotional depth, leaving me confused and disengaged. To be clear, the acting was excellent — this isn’t a criticism of the cast, who clearly gave it their all. At nearly three hours long, the show felt drawn out. I seriously considered leaving during the interval. I really wanted to enjoy this, but I can’t recommend it. I’m genuinely surprised by the number of glowing reviews.

  Went yesterday with my family including my two children aged 12 & 13. We are all massive stranger things fans. So let’s just start by saying that that the effects in this are brilliant as is the music. I was gripped for the most part. The actor playing Henry is brilliant-subtle and convincing. As was the actor playing Dr Brennan. The actor playing Munson was hillarious and bought some much needed light relief to the plot. I did however feel that the Patty storyline included lots of filler and I found she overacted to the point of annoyance! I know we are talking about a plot including the upside down but I didn’t find her acting convincing-and the idea she proclaims her love for Henry after not knowing him for long at all made me cringe! I sat through some of it patiently waiting for the next built up of tension imvolving Henry and his transformation-that’s what made this production worth it imo. Hopper played by a strong actor but again I felt the role was over-egged and overacted. Too much squawking and screeching as characters ‘frantically’ (and I ran that literally!) try to solve what’s happening in the town. I thought the theatre website was brilliant in terms of clarity about your seating view. We were in the stalls about halfway back from the stage and our view wasn’t hampered at all. The entrance area is tight as you come in-people everywhere and nowhere to sit while you wait for the internal doors to open. I advise heading towards the bar further inside. This isn’t a cheap day out by any means but we are all glad we went- especially with the hype of the new series just around the corner!

  Great show,, not so comfortable steats, over priced, graphics could be better , if you need a toliet you have to cross your legs because if you leave your seat your not alot aloud to go back in , which I think is ridiculous because the amount of shows ive been too your aloud to get up and go to the loo , if you go while your pregnant good luck for asking for a toliet , one lady dont no her name but was rude and made you feel uncomfortable and scared that you could just end up wee yourself ,

  ive never seen the show but this was absolutely incredible! I was hooked and could not take my eyes from the stage. We had the cheepest tickets and still saw the entire show

  They cancelled the show approximately 45 minutes before the doors were due to open with no explanation or no apology. We only travelled to London specifically to watch this show so was a waste of money on travel too. Just be warned they have no problem with extremely late cancellations.. so buy the purchase protection on your ticket and your travel.

  I’m usually hesitant about seeing stage adaptations of TV or film, but Stranger Things: The First Shadow did not disappoint. The opening sequence alone is jaw-dropping and instantly reminds you why we all fell in love with the original series. The staging and effects are genuinely phenomenal—some of the best I’ve ever seen in theatre. Most of the cast were excellent, though not without a few rough edges. The actor playing Alex Muson needs to tone it down—someone’s clearly told him he’s funny, but he’s now overplaying it so much that it veers into cringe and cheapens the character. In contrast, Bob’s performance was a real standout, and Joyce brought warmth and depth to the role. James Hooper Jr.’s accent was unfortunately very distracting—it kept slipping between Norwegian, southern American, and even something close to Snake Jailbird from The Simpsons. A tighter handle on vocal consistency would strengthen the performance considerably. The two leads, Henry Creel and Patty Newby, were captivating throughout. They carried the story with nuance and emotional weight, grounding the spectacle with genuine heart. Overall, The First Shadow is a triumph. With jaw-dropping effects, strong leads, and unforgettable moments, it’s a must-watch.

  I am not a fan of the tv show but was recommended to go and see this by a friend. We loved this and it is a unique theatre experience. The set design and lightening effects are incredible. Very hard to explain as so different from any other show. The cast were amazing! It is a dark storyline so physically and mentally draining for them to perform. I do not understand the negative reviews. I am going to assume they are from people with short attention spans who cannot handle watching a play. Special recognition to Louis Healy for his captivating performance, simply outstanding.

  This show was a significant disappointment, to the point where I seriously considered leaving during the intermission. I really wish I had seen more reviews like this beforehand so I could have avoided watching it entirely. The performances by the lead actors, particularly Pat and Henry, were the one redeeming quality and genuinely excellent. However, the production was let down by a completely chaotic and sloppy storyline. The plot was incredibly difficult to follow, jumping between events without any clear sense of direction or purpose. The narrative felt less like a cohesive story and more like a series of disjointed scenes. Even though I managed to get my tickets at a discounted rate, I'm still frustrated about having spent money on it, and I'm frankly shocked by the overwhelmingly positive reviews I've seen elsewhere. While the visual effects and the staging were undeniably cool, they weren't enough to save the show from its fundamental narrative flaws. I certainly wouldn't recommend anyone sit through three hours of this production.

  My husband bought me tickets for my birthday as he knows I am a fan of the show. It was so good the lead actor was absolutely brilliant I could have watched him all day long so good. If you are a fan I recommend this show it is a prequel but I think even if you don’t know it would still be good! One thing to appreciate though is the front row is too close and the seats are really uncomfortable if you are tall!!
