This journey takes you to one of Patagonia’s most breathtaking natural wonders — the Marble Chapels Nature Sanctuary, a National Monument of Chile.
Formed over thousands of years by the glacial waters of General Carrera Lake, these striking marble caves and formations glow in shades of blue, white, and gray as sunlight reflects off the turquoise water. The result is a surreal, dreamlike landscape that feels like stepping into a work of art sculpted by nature itself.
As we travel along the legendary Carretera Austral, you’ll witness forests, rivers, and mountains that showcase the pristine beauty of the Aysén Region. Once in Puerto Río Tranquilo, we’ll navigate across the lake to explore the famous Marble Cathedral, Marble Chapels, and Marble Caverns up close — an experience that will stay with you forever.
After the boat tour, enjoy a delicious lunch included in a local restaurant before beginning the scenic return journey to Coyhaique.
Suitable for all physical fitness levels
Your adventure begins early in the morning with departure from your hotel in Coyhaique, heading south along the legendary Carretera Austral, one of the most scenic routes in Chilean Patagonia.
During the journey — approximately 2 to 3 hours — you’ll travel 233 kilometers through breathtaking Patagonian landscapes. Along the way, we’ll pass by stunning natural landmarks such as Lago Verde, La Piedra del Conde, Portezuelo Ibáñez, and the Cuesta del Diablo viewpoint, which offers magnificent views of Cerro Castillo. The route itself is part of the experience — a combination of winding roads, crystal-clear rivers, and snow-capped peaks that define the wild beauty of Patagonia. Upon reaching Puerto Río Tranquilo, we’ll stop at the lake’s shore for the next stage of the journey.

We booked this tour months in advance. We received confirmation when we booked and got a confirmation the day before to confirm our pickup.. We were standing outside our hotel at the appointed time, in the rain, and they did not show up. We texted , phoned, WhatsApp'ed them but got no response. We waited 15 minutes and came back to the room to call Viator. Viator was very prompt to help. They contacted the operator (they got an answer) and the operator said they had a driver issue and could not honor our reservation. We travelled here specifically for this tour. There is not much else to do here at this time of year and so we wasted a plane ticket, hotel, shuttle and 3 days of our vacation time for this tour company. NO call. NO apology. NO ability to have a later start to arrange another driver. COMPLETELY UNRELIABLE AND TAKES NO OWNERSHIP OF THEIR ERROR. We got a tour refund but that was minor compared to what we went through to arrange and show up for this trip. I would not use this company and I wish Viator/Trip Advisor took more responsibility for having a bad operator on their recommended roster. Issues arise but a company that does not have any backup plans to support travellers is not a reliable company and likely too small to be considered reliable. I think, that at the least, the company should have called us to apologize or to let us know that they were not going to show up.

I had an amazing time on my tour. Everyone was so kind and welcoming to me (I was traveling alone, and I don’t speak much Spanish). They translated and included me throughout, and I enjoyed the full experience. Thank you so much for your kindness 😊
