Te Anau Downs
Following departure form Te Anau, we have a 25min drive to Te Anau Downs. If the weather is appropriate, we stop here for a photo and sightseeing looking across Lake Te Anau and down the Middle Fjord.
Mirror Lakes Walk
Following a 20min drive, we arrive at Mirror Lakes. This short 2-minute nature walk on well formed tracks and boardwalks will have you at the tranquil Mirror Lakes, the backdrop of the Earl Mountains behind them. This is a challenge for any travelling photographer to capture the essence of the lakes - their mirror reflection.

3.00Tour was great, but overpriced… Unfortunately, the recommended lunch was poor and not very sensible. You leave the harbor at Milford Sound and are first seated at a table with other tourists. This wastes time and means you miss out on great photo opportunities. The reserved seats on the ship are located far below, so you can't see much even through the window. We would definitely not recommend lunch, especially since you can also buy something spontaneously on board (probably even cheaper than what you have to pre-order). Incidentally, lunch is not included in the tour price, which is a bit cheeky considering that the tour costs several hundred dollars for two people. Recommendation: Drive there in your own car or camper and book a suitable boat tour!

The journey was comfortable and beautifully organised, with stunning scenery and insightful commentary from our guide. The cruise itself was breathtaking - truly a highlight of our New Zealand trip. Highly recommended for those seeking a first-class and memorable adventure.

5.00We had a fabulous trip to Milford Sound from Te Anau. The minibus was extremely comfortable, only 7 of us on the trip so unlike coach tours, no delays getting on and off for photo stops and to see sights along the way. Ian, our guide/driver was lovely and explained what we were seeing along the way and knew just where and when to stop for great sightseeing! We were provided with reusable water bottles to keep, and stopped by the river for morning coffee and a delicious muffin too. The cruise was fantastic, and there was a seating area reserved for Luxe tours where lunch arrived promptly on arrival (if ordered) so we didn’t miss any sight seeing. Overall, I highly recommend this tour!

Our guide Jonno was the heart of the journey, warm, witty, and incredibly knowledgeable. His commentary brought the landscape to life, weaving in fascinating insights and local stories that made every mile memorable. The coach itself was a dream: spacious, spotless, and thoughtfully equipped for all weather conditions. Whether it was sunshine or showers, we travelled in comfort and style. Milford Sound was breathtaking, and Luxe Tours made sure we experienced it in the best possible way. If you're considering this trip, don’t hesitate, it's a must-do. Highly recommended!

5.00This tour was worth every penny! I’m sure there are a million different tours to Milford Sound but I can’t recommend Luxe Tours strongly enough - in fact at one point today I wished I could go back in time to make every single decision the exact same way so that it would lead me back to this moment again. First of all, it is well worth it not to have driven out myself because I either wouldn’t have been able to appreciate the sights on this winding road or would have driven off the road. Second, I wouldn’t have known about all the delightful little stops we enjoyed along the way, I would have just stopped where other tourists stopped. The Guide: Pick up in Te Anau was timely, maybe even a few minutes early. Our tour guide Andres was warm and welcoming right off the bat! He was very accommodating: I asked if I could sit in the front passenger seat because I get motion sick and he immediately said yes. Another in our group had forgotten to pre-order lunch so he stopped at a fantastic local coffee shop / bakery in Te Anau and said anyone can go in. On the drive out Andres provided an impressive variety of detailed information on everything from the terrain and geography to local culture to Māori culture and language to flora and fauna. It was well balanced; he didn’t talk our ears off and as still got the full benefit of his expertise. We managed to make a good number of sightseeing stops along the way and he repeatedly encouraged us to take our time and offered to take photos if people wanted. Andres even told the group that he’d decided one of the stops based on his observations of everyone’s energy, vibe, and fitness. It’s very clear he invested a lot of thought and care into how he could ensure all of his guests had the best experience he could give them. It was immensely pleasing to have a tour guide who treated his guests like individuals who were trying to have a once in a life time experience. Tour Logistics: Perfect. Their emails were very clear and I especially appreciated the information on what to pack and wear for the trip. The group size was small (we had 11 on our shoulder season trip so no quite full) and the van was very comfortable with water provided, sufficient bathroom stops, and a morning break that provided a breakfast pastry and tea or coffee. We also made a mid morning stop where a coffee cart was available if anyone wanted to purchase. In the boat there were designated seats on the boat and we immediately received our pre-order lunches (delicious!) so that we could quickly eat and then go up to the deck for sightseeing. The boat also served a decent variety of beverages (hot and cold, alcoholic and not). Andres gave very clear information about how to get on the boat and where to find him after so there was no confusion. Although we didn’t need them, I saw that there were umbrellas in the back of the van in case it rained. If I had one concern, it’s that the Milford Sound experience with Luxe Tours and Andres as the tour guide may have been so good that any other tour I take on this trip will suffer by comparison! Thank you Luxe Tours and Andres for the experience of a lifetime! These are some of my favorite photos from the trip. There were thousands of waterfalls but I am not posting many of those photos because I couldn’t capture the magic of them properly.

5.00We had a great experience with Jonno from Luxe tours. We really enjoyed the small group vibe and Jonno was so informative and interesting to speak with. He made the whole day so much better than it would have been on a large bus tour or had we driven ourselves. I think we would have missed the boat as we wouldn’t have known about the long wait for the tunnel or the tight parking at the car park. Well done Luxe tours you did a grand job. Paula & Antony

5.00Really happy we chose Luxe Tours- the experience was 5star from pick up to drop off. The tour didn't begin on the boat but from the moment we we're picked up from our accomodation. Andreas was our driver- He turned the drive (with the added scenic stops) into a great experience. They've thought about everything and made sure it's top quality. Would highly recommend.
