Chiang Mai
Don’t follow the herd. Forget green curry and pad Thai, that's central Thai fare. Hop on board our private songthaew truck for four hours of feasting. Hit up the street eats and fresh markets across the city gorging on 15+ Northern Thai tastings. Many are unaware that this used to be the Lanna Kingdom well before it was part of Thailand and its food influences come from neighbouring Myanmar, China and beyond. We don't want to spoil the surprise, but some drool-worthy highlights include the zingy nam ngiaw noodles, the meaty larb salads, the sizzling lemongrass sai oua sausages and piquant nam prik relishes among many more lip-smackingly good tastings at places you'd struggle to find alone.

“Muai” (apologies if I’ve misspelled the name!) is an outstanding culinary guide who perfectly blends local history with great knowledge of Northern Thai cuisine. We were picked up at Wat Lok Moli, right on the edge of Chiang Mai’s Old City, and taken on an unforgettable food adventure. Traveling by a traditional songthaew (red taxi truck), we visited fantastic street food spots and two vibrant local markets, sampling a wide variety of delicious Northern Thai dishes along the way. Our group included eight people, including two children, and Muai was incredibly thoughtful—arranging non-spicy versions for the kids and for those of us not used to chili. It made the experience enjoyable and inclusive for everyone. Come hungry! Although portions are small, there is so much to taste that you’ll quickly feel full. Muai also made sure we stayed hydrated, providing water at nearly every stop, which was very much appreciated. This is an absolute must-do tour if you want to truly discover Northern Thai cuisine in an authentic and fun way.

The 18+ tastings are centered around 5 different stops, 3 restaurants, 1 street stall, and a market. The entire experience lasted 2 hours 15 minutes with our group of 3 + the guide. She was knowledgeable re: flavors and the history of the stands. The food at the first stop was amazing and then from there, it was either okay or nothing remarkable or so spicy that it wasn't edible. The fresh fruits were nice. The final stop was a tapioca stand for dessert but flies were all over the open containers of tapioca flavored items.

This was a unique food tour that accentuated northern Thai cuisine, different from what many consider typical central Thai food. We tried may new dishes and Moui was very informative about the history of the dishes as well as showing and having us smell the spices that go into northern Thai foods. Be advised: there were many spicy dishes, but all very delicious!

Great! I tried so many things I would never have found / been brave enough to eat on my own. Highly recommended for people looking to try more authentic northern Thai cuisine than what's served in all the tourist restaurants

Had an awesome time on this tour trying food and flavours we had never heard of before. We also loved the background and history provided by our guide Aim! She even stayed behind afterwards and answered additional questions. Would definitely suggest if you love food and food history!

While AIM tried her hardest to educate us about Northern Thai food and the culture, sometimes there was way too much information and her English was sometimes difficult to understand. Food selection was ok, but some way out choices were just unenjoyable. The order and direction of the food was a little lost. The Claypot restaurant and the Cowboy hat lady stall were by far the best stops. We have been on this company’s tours in other countries, and this one didn’t compare.

SO GOOD! We tried so many things we may not have otherwise tried. Our guide, Indy, was lovely and shared knowledge about northern Thai food.
