Acropolis Museum
The Acropolis Museum is one of the world's most important museums, filled with a vast collection of beautiful objects from thousands of years ago, world-famous for its stunning Parthenon Marbles and for the unique way in which it displays them. On this tour, you'll discover that it's also home to two Athenians from the Golden Age of Athens, whose everyday lives you'll explore as you move through the exhibits. Their personal stories are hidden in the things they left behind, the artifacts that we encounter at the museum today. Each item has something to tell us − can you figure out what it is? And what do these stories, these lives, mean to us today? Your expert guide will be there to lead the way through the different galleries and to connect the past to the present through a series of fun activities that will let you discover more about what ancient life was really like. As you solve the puzzles and take part in the activities, you'll learn about Ancient Greek history and culture. When you've finished this museum adventure, you'll know what made this ancient city so special, and you'll understand, too, the modern relevance of its crowning glory, the Acropolis. In the end, the Ancient World will have taken on a whole new meaning for you, a meaning that you will have had an active part in shaping!

The first thing we did upon arriving in Athens was take a private tour with Antonia from Alternative Athens. We were tired from the overnight flight, but Antonia's passion and love of architecture and Greek history kept us engaged and interested in what might have been a dry, tedious experience. The time flew by and we learned a tremendous amount of information in our short time together. We are forever thankful for her attention to detail and her ability to convey centuries old materials to us in an easily digestible format. Great tour!!

We did the acropolys Museum private tour with our teen girls on a very hot afternoon. It was a great way to learn not only about the Acropolys, but about the history of Athens, mythology and everyday life during that period. Eleni was a great guide with ample historical knowledge, passion for transmission and great French.

My family and I hired Alternative Athens this summer for a private, child-focused tour of the Acropolis and were very disappointed. For a 500 euro tour, it was the worst guided tour we’ve had across any of our travels. We shared the below feedback with the company directly and were offered a food tour, which we would not and could not do. Their response was effectively ‘thanks for letting us know.’ We would advise against this tour company. For the cost, it was absolutely not worth it. Frankly, I would have been disappointed if the tour had been 100 euro but for 500 euro, it was a travesty. — Hi, I’d like to provide a bit of feedback on how our tour went, as perhaps it can be used to implement changes that will help a future family. We are quite disappointed. Having booked a 500 euro private tour geared toward children, we certainly expected more. The transfer vehicle didn’t have fully functioning air conditioning. There was no water provided. Our tour guide was wholly disengaged with our children. She didn’t even ask their names or introduce herself to them. She raced ahead from us and I had to ask her at least five times to slow down to allow our 2 year old to walk at his pace or for one of us to carry him. Her tour was wholly uninterested and just basically recited and inflexible. She seemed bothered to take a photo and, the one time I asked her to, took a photo with her finger covering the lens. I’d also add… put your guide told us that she was unable to talk to us while she walked and had only one child activity card, which naturally meant that two of our children were excluded. Candidly, we would have been better off with a self-guided tour. I wish I had more positive feedback to provide but am shocked at the lack of engagement and quality of such an expensive tour. We were really hoping for a child-focused tour and had thought this would be far different.’

Our private tour of the Acropolis Museum was an unforgettable experience that gave us a deeper understanding of ancient Greek art, culture, and mythology. Our guide was exceptionally knowledgeable, patient, and passionate, allowing us to take our time with each exhibit and truly absorb the history behind the artifacts. Walking through the museum, we were amazed by the size and detail of the statues and decorative elements that once adorned the Parthenon. Seeing these masterpieces up close made us appreciate the incredible craftsmanship and the way each piece told a story — from gods and goddesses to epic battles and mythological scenes. The museum itself is beautifully designed, and our guide made sure we understood not just what we were looking at, but why it mattered — offering context, historical insights, and interpretations that brought the ancient world to life. This tour is an absolute must-do for anyone visiting Athens, especially if you're already planning to see the Acropolis itself. It added so much meaning and appreciation to everything we saw later at the site. Highly recommended!

This was an excellent tour, well worth the price. We were somewhat jet-legged, and several people in my family group later admitted they were not looking forward to an overwhelming, possibly boring, museum tour. Not so! Anastasia made this experience come alive - she was engaging, told stories, and led us through the wonderful Acropolis Museum in a way that made the chronology of both art and politics of Ancient Athens come alive. People have different preferences, but I would recommend doing this tour before touring Acropolis itself, as it will illuminate the experience of being on the Acropolis. Two more things: - we feel badly that we didn't leave Anastasia with a tip--as I mentioned, we were very jet lagged, miscommunicated, and each of us thought the other had it in hand. This was an egregious error because it turned out she was the best tour guide we had in Greece, by far! Very knowledgeable, smart, focused, good storyteller, personable. We're so sorry! She deserved all her pay and more. And secondly, the British Museum really should send the Elgin Marbles back to the Greece and this wonderful museum.

Kimon gave us a nice visit that he knew how to make interesting by his pedagogy, his examples and his complete explanations. Thank you to him for this good time which following the visit of the Acropolis was very profitable. To do. Laurent,
