For the Flexible Tour Option, booking is available up to one day before departure. Start anytime, even before dawn for a Borobudur sunrise. To witness sunrise inside Borobudur Temple, tickets must be booked via the official website at least two days prior; otherwise, sunrise will be enjoyed from Hill with stunning views of Borobudur and Mount Merapi.

Borobudur Temple
Borobudur is the largest Buddhist temple in the world, a 9th-century Mahayana Buddhist temple in Central Java, Indonesia, stands out for several reasons. Constructed from gray andesite-like stone, it features nine stacked platforms six square, and three circulars crowned by a central dome. The temple is adorned with an astonishing 2,672 relief panels and originally housed 504 Buddha statues. As you explore its extensive system of stairways and corridors, you’ll encounter 1,460 narrative relief panels that depict the Buddha’s teachings and life

5.00Surya was an excellent guide: professional, warm and kind. It was a pleasure to be accompanied by him. The temples are remarkable. Remember to book a ticket to visit Borobudur via the official website a couple of days in advance - Viator can help with that if needed - in order to secure your preferred time slot. You may wish you had more time for each! The Merapi experience was a lot of fun - be prepared to get wet!

5.00We had an amazing experience with Joko as our driver. He took us to the Royal Ballet, and the highlight of our trip was definitely Borobudur Sunrise via Manohara. It was absolutely incredible, a small group experience with a knowledgeable guide who led us to the best spot on Borobudur Temple for sunrise. He explained the history and meaning behind each level of the temple, and even helped us capture some great photos. Afterwards, we enjoyed an unforgettable breakfast buffet on Nagi Hill, overlooking the temple. The view was breathtaking, it really put into perspective the vast scale and beauty of Borobudur. Later, Joko drove us to Prambanan Temple, about an hour and a half away. He’s a very safe and considerate driver, and his car was so comfortable that we managed to have a quick nap along the way. Once we arrived, he helped us purchase tickets and made sure we were all set with a local guide. The guide was excellent, full of knowledge about the stonework, restoration process, and the temple’s rich history. This was truly an unforgettable experience, and we couldn’t recommend Joko enough. If you book a tour with him, you’re guaranteed a magical time. Oh, and you can’t miss his car, a distinctive Chevy that stands out among the crowd of Toyotas!

Always punctual, friendly, and incredibly accommodating, he handled last-minute changes with great flexibility, making our trip completely stress-free. 5.00Joko arrived on time, spoke excellent English and as a local knew all the history of the Temples. And volcano we toured. I was solo and therefore time was not an issue. We stopped for a local lunch and enjoyed good food with a view of rice fields. Joko was personable and I recommend him fully.
