Come along for a unique Korean rice wine tasting, hosted by Jay, a Korean liquor sommelier, and Sam, a certified Korean alcohol brewer.
Korean alcohol is so much more than just that familiar green bottle of Soju.
Makgeolli, a fermented and unfiltered (thus hazy) rice wine, is widely consumed, yet poorly understood, despite its popularity.
We've explored hundreds of Makgeollis across Korea, finding fantastic, flavorful bottles—many from small, local producers rarely able to reach a wider audience.
Our aim is to introduce you to the best Makgeolli in each category.
Our tasting takes place in a hidden backroom of a small, specialty rice wine shop.

5.00Makgeolli is one of our favourite drinks and we were so curious about the differences at home and in Korea. Sam’s selection of Makgeolli completely blew us away. We instantly felt welcome and moreover comfortable to talk about the backgrounds of the makgeolli, to the background of Seoul and the different lifestyles that we have. And a really big thank you for both Sam and Jay for following up with us during the whole trip with recommendations for food places to try. I highly recommend for anyone looking for an experience that is really personable and super informative!

5.00This was one of the most worthwhile experiences we had in Seoul! We had a great night learning from Sam and tasting the different makegeollis. I didn’t know the range makegeolli comes in but the options Sam chose were fantastic. We were able to learn a lot not just about makegeolli but for any queries we had in general. Special shout to both Sam and Jay (who we met on another tour of theirs) for being so personable and kind - they gave us many great food recs for different areas of Seoul!

5.00Sam and Jay were fun, personable and informative hosts with great knowledge to share. I learned a lot about makgeolli and it's fascinating history. Learning about it's cultural roots and significance is really what made it special to me, but also the innovations they are making in the process is very interesting. I would recommend their tours to everyone. They also gave me great tips for my travels. I immediately booked the Mangwon food market tour after this knowing I would be in great hands. I would also like to try the soju tasting someday. Thank you for the wonderful experience!

5.00I went solo and was a bit scared at first since I’m an introvert but everyone in my group was absolutely amazing. Sam was so informative during the tasting and it was a wonderful cultural and educational experience even for me as a Korean American. Everyone in my group and the host went out for additional drinks after because we were having so much fun. It truly made my trip and I would suggest this experience for anyone!!!

5.00This experience was seriously amazing! It was worth the money and Sam was such a cool host. He hooked us up with 4 drinks as part of the tour, and Sam taught us on the backstory of each one and how they're a big part of Korean culture. Plus, he dished out a bunch of suggestions for stuff to do around Seoul. Since the group was small, we got to hang out and get to know the other folks on the tour. We had such a blast!
