A self-guided audio walking tour through Ystad, based on Henning Mankell’s Kurt Wallander short story ”The Death of the Photographer”.

It is a chilly spring morning in 1988. Police detective Kurt Wallander is having breakfast when he is alerted that a local photographer has been found brutally murdered. The events of the murder are curious, and it becomes even more strange when Wallander finds a photo album that contains a grotesquely distorted image of himself at the crime scene.

This audio tour is self-guided via a GPS-based app downloaded to your smartphone. There will be clues and evidence material hidden in your surroundings – features that are triggered to show up on your mobile screen when you get close to them. Through sound, images, and exciting puzzles you will be challenged to use your detective skills to solve this case. There are more than 300 half-timbered houses in Ystad, which is the most extensive and well-preserved collection of half-timbered houses in Sweden. When you follow Piparegränd up towards Österportstorg, you will pass by Per Helsa’s courtyard, where an entire block of those houses can be found, the oldest thought to date back to the 17:th century.

Nice walk but axe sold through Tripadvisor. But the provider Viator solved the problem of getting a link to the actual experience, however it took more than 90 minutes before we could start the “adventure” The story itself was well composed and told, however, it should have been clearer that headphones of some kind would have been needed. It was very bumpy to wander with the phone in your ear for so long.

A nice city tour that didn't get boring. You didn’t have to do much puzzles, however, but nevertheless a nice experience and many impressions, which we like to take with us.

The story is quite nice, but it was surprising and disappointing little mystery to solve. First of all, you don't solve the murder case in the real sense. What bothered me a lot is that Swedish proper names are pronounced German and therefore completely wrong. Surely that could be fixed?

You must have seen the series to recognize the Wallander must-see locations. The plus point is that you go to places and there is something to say about them. My tip would be that when something is said, you sit somewhere and listen. I myself was too easily distracted. If only there were more audio tours than just in Sweden's big cities

It was fun. When you know the books it's a nice experience. You could visit the city a little differently this way.

It started already because it was very difficult to confirm your tickets (yes, it is not enough to buy the tickets / experience - you also have to confirm it again). The link did not work and after I created an account on two different websites (should you really need it?) we called the support. There we had to talk to a person who spoke only English and repeated the same instructions over and over again, although it did not advance the case. In the end I just said OK and hung up. After some searching on the internet, it finally worked out and we carried out the activity. That in itself was nothing fancy, more like an ordinary story than a murder mystery. We didn't feel we solved the puzzle. You got a round through Ystad to places connected to Wallander - nothing more really. You were instructed during the tour to look for things on a picture on the phone, compare photos and handwriting but since you do not get further in the story until you have done the right thing, it is not much of a crime mystery. In the end, it's right. A final minus is that you apparently can not close your account on Tripadvisor which means that you might have an account that you do not want.... Would rather have saved the money and bought a good coffee and watched a Wallander movie at home instead.

An interesting city tour :-). The criminal case is a nice addition and makes the running routes entertaining, even for teenagers. We've seen corners we hadn't seen before.

We did the tour today because I'm a fan of Henning Mankell and it was really nice to experience the city trough this well told story of commissar Wallander. The audio voice was nice and the walking distance perfect. During this tour you see nice places and can have a coffee at the cafes which are part of the story. Can only recommend it when you like audiobooks and/or crime stories! Note: bring a full battery and headphones with you!

The app eats your battery in winter time like popcorn. My phone died after half of the tour. The software need to improve.
