Milford Sound is arguably the most scenic destination in New Zealand and a must-see for any traveller. Whether seen in sunshine or rain, the incredible views are guaranteed to leave you awestruck. Thisglobally award winning small group tour is for travellers seeking an all-inclusive, uniquely-kiwi, personalised trip from Queentown to Milford Sound and back.
Our fleet of modern Mercedes vans are fiited with leather seats, panoramic scenic windows, Wi-Fi and Spotify. Enjoy a small-group journey with 15 people maximum for ultimate comfort and undivded attention from your guide.
Let your Altitude Tours guide entertain you with in-depth knowledge of the area, as you travel from Queenstown into the Fiordland National Park on the famous Milford Road. Enjoy many scenic photo stops at both famous locations, as well as your guide's favourite spots.
Enjoy a 2-hour boutique uncrowded cruise and picnic lunch while taking in the incredible beauty that Milford Sound has to offer!

Travelers should have a high level of physical fitness
Please bring walking shoes, warm clothes and rain jacket.
Please be aware that Milford Sound is a 5 hour drive from Queenstown (one-way with sightseeing stops). This is a full day excursion, and including the 2 hour cruise on the fjord, allow approximately 13 hours door to door.
A packed picnic lunch is included in your experience. The default choice is a chicken, however you can request a vegetarian lunch until 5pm the day prior.
Please bring a reusable waterbottle on tour with us. There are multiple locations to refill during the day.

Start your day by meeting our friendly local guide at or near your Queenstown accommodation. You'll travel in style in a premium Mercedes van designed for touring with only 16 seats onboard. The first leg of our journey to Milford Sound transports you from Queenstown through the picturesque Southland farming country and the charming town of Te Anau, where we'll make a brief stop by the lakeside for refreshments.

Lake Te Anau is in the southwestern corner of the South Island of New Zealand. The lake covers an area of 344 km², making it the second-largest lake by surface area in New Zealand and the largest in the South Island. It is the largest lake in Australasia by fresh water volume.

5.00Had an amazing tour with Andy and Adida today. Both very friendly and knowledgeable. The cruise was the absolute highlight of the day, but also the drive through the beautiful landscape and the stops on the way were pretty cool as well. Highly recommended.

5.00We had a truly fabulous day travelling to Milford Sound with Altitude. From start to finish, the experience was seamless and enjoyable. Our driver, Chase, was not only knowledgeable but also incredibly friendly, which made the journey itself just as memorable as the destination. He shared fascinating insights along the way and created a welcoming atmosphere that really elevated the tour. Milford Sound is breathtaking and we couldn’t have asked for a better way to experience this iconic place. 5.00Amy was a fantastic guide. Very friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. She created a happy friendly environment and was able to anticipate the needs of her guests. She made the trip about us and not her. I would thoroughly recommend. The transport was great and the guide on the boat was also very friendly. I forgot to mention Amy’s choice in music was spot on for setting the scene

5.00Chelsea was the ultimate guide, with an in-depth understanding and experience in Maori history, Milford Sound geology, plants, insects, birds, trekking, and more, and was also a skilled driver and taskmaster who kept the group on schedule. Couldn't have asked for a better guide. The van was comfortable, with large windows and a sunroof, allowing a full view of the journey. The cruise with Milford Cruises was fine; the captain sailed the sound as planned, but his narration and enunciation could have been better.

5.00We’re celebrating our wedding anniversary with a South Island holiday, and this was hands down THE highlight of our entire trip. Everything was spot on. The weather was perfect (a bit of rain actually makes Milford even better), the coach was super comfortable, the kea were mischievous and entertaining, and our driver/guide (sadly didn’t catch her name) was one of the most awesome Canadians I’ve met so far. Sure, there are other operators and cheaper ways to visit Milford Sound, but the extra cost is 100% worth it for the comfort, smooth experience, and overall quality. It’s easy to see why they’re so highly rated.

5.00An absolutely amazing day trip from Queenstown into Milford Sound. I went as a young, solo traveller and the small group made it so easy to make friends with people on the journey. Big thank you to my guide Jono! Loved learning about New Zealand and have already started annoying my family with pictures of a kiwi x-ray. Made such a comfortable environment for everyone and appreciate it muchly.
