The Deathly Dark Tour of York is a grim and theatrical, dark comedy walking tour, perfect for those who have a bit of a wicked streak and are looking to explore the dark and spooky history of the city with one of our guides, famous for their wonderfully dark sense of humour.
Please note, this is NOT a scare attraction, it is a storytelling experience.
The tour is family friendly, but some may find the stories frightening. Children must remain with their parent/guardian at all times.
Tour group size is 20-50 people, although this will change depending on the season. Private and small group tours are available on request.

5.00The Deathly Dark Tour of York is hands-down one of the best things you can do in the city. Equal parts spine-chilling, hilarious and brilliantly informative, it manages to bring York’s grim history to life without ever taking itself too seriously. Our guide was outstanding, charismatic, knowledgeable, and perfectly paced, with just the right balance of genuine historical detail and dark humour. You’re not just told ghost stories; you’re immersed in the real (often gruesome) past of York, with tales of executions, plague, murder and mayhem delivered in a way that keeps you hooked from start to finish. Even if you think you know York well, this tour reveals layers you’d never notice wandering the streets on your own. Atmospheric routes, clever storytelling, and moments that genuinely made us laugh out loud (and occasionally shiver). If you want a ghost tour that’s smart, entertaining, and memorable — not cheesy or gimmicky — this is the one. Would 100% do it again and recommend it to anyone visiting York. Brilliantly dark. 5.00Brilliantly entertaining for all ages! Our guide was really engaging and funny too,with lots of theatrical content! To say it was -2 degrees, his enthusiasm never waned, Fully enjoyable and recommend.

5.00We have lived in York for many, many years but had never been on one of these tours. We booked to go over the Christmas break and we both found it thoroughly entertaining and informative! We would definitely recommend it to visitors or people who live in the area, you won't be disappointed!

5.00Great fun. Very informative and spooky. Our guide was excellent! He was humorous, knowledgeable and entertaining from beginning to end. It made the 1.5hr tour feel like it was over in minutes. Had you interested all the way through. Very good! Thank you!

5.00I have been on a few of their tours over the last few years and next time I am in York I hope to do another. It’s 90 minutes of theatrical, comedic, over dramatic, entertaining and engaging frivolity. Story telling at its best with some interesting facts about spooky locations in central York. My American friend loved it and understood most of the humour especially Dante’s little hands. I must admit that Dorian is my favourite guide because I have followed him since COVID lockdown- not literally though as that would be stalking and I would get arrested.
