Technically I did this when it was at Tsukiji, a week before the market closed. I just realized my review never uploaded, so my visit was actually in autumn of 2018, not January 2019. At any rate it was wonderful. I'm a zooarchaeologist who specializes in fish faunas, so I had academic interests in the fishes for this tour. The tour guide translated my questions beautifully, the fish mongers and sellers were very informational, and I'm so thrilled I got to see the early morning fish market activity before it closed. The fish monger who was meant to guide me at the tuna auction had an emergency surgery, and the tour company worked really hard to find alternate plans and gave me several options. It was one of the highlights of my trip to Asia. The tour company is marvelous and I'm sad that old Tsukiji has closed, but if the tour is running things at the new location anything like they had at Tsukiji, it's worth it.

I got a 1 x 1 tour with Naoko. She was really nice, informative and helped me have a great time. Seeing the tuna market was probably a once in a lifetime kind of thing to do. The breakfast afterwards was insane (and I've had a lot of sushi in my life). It was the only akami I've ever really enjoyed (I always enjoy chutoro and and otoro). It was amazing fish, amazing service and a fantastic time.

The BEST tour in Japan & Tokyo. We met a guide at our hotel lobby, and first she took us to a studio in the fish market, where we had a tuna wholesaler speeches about tuna & market affairs in fluent English. So informative and so interesting, with a nice sense of humor. Then the guide took us to the inside of the fish market where is not allowed to visit for the public at the time. It was great to walk through the inner market in the early morning time before general public enters. The tuna auction was very exciting! It was only 10 minutes though, worth watching at least once in a lifetime. As basically there is no instruction nor explanation, the detailed guiding of our guide was so helpful. (Having a good spot to watch in the watching area is a thing. The guide did well for taking it.) After the auction, it ended with fresh tuna tasting in their kitchen. They said their tuna department sells tunas to some Michelin star restaurants in Tokyo, and indeed it was a thing!
