Perfect for those who have just arrived, as well as locals and those who want to go deeper in learning about Australian history, culture, society and First Nations people.
Starting from Customs House, you’ll hear about Sydney’s colonisation by the British - and how their arrival impacted the original inhabitants.
Your guide will provide you with a range of perspectives on Sydney’s development, introducing Aboriginal leaders, British governors, convicts and entrepreneurs, as well as more recent arrivals.
You’ll finish with a beer at a popular brewery with views of the Bridge, the Opera House and Sydney Harbour. Over a drink, your host will give you further recommendations to make your time in Sydney special – stuff you won’t find in a guidebook!
Walk the streets in a small group so you’re not fighting to see & hear your guide or stay on the footpath.

Customs House
We start at Customs House where you'll see a scale model of all of Sydney and where we will walk (approx 4km / 2.5 miles). You'll also learn some Aboriginal place names for parts of Sydney and explore the new precinct immediately behind Customs House.
The Mint
We walk past the "Rum Hospital", which now consists of NSW Parliament, the Sydney Hospital and the Mint.

5.00Having a short 36 hours in Sydney there was no time to self-explore so finding this trip on TA was perfect for me! Met the excellent Jake on time and 9 of us from four continents set off on a highly engaging and educational tour of the City. We visited many landmarks (set out in the "What to Expect" section) and Jake took the time to explain the history, the cultural heritage and modern stories of this incredible city. I have been on a LOT of City tours around the world and Jake is among the best. He kept the whole group engaged, encouraging questions and taking an interest in all of us individually (how he remember everyone's names is a great skill!). A must do for first timers in Sydney.

5.00I'm from Melbourne and I can't tell you how many times I've been to Sydney over the years for work, short break holidays, to see my team play or to visit friends. But I realised I have never acted like a true tourist. So I bit the bullet and booked this Sydney walking tour and my mind was blown. Justin, our guide, was brilliant. Great personality, funny, informative (but just the right amount), engaging and made everyone feel special. The content, the context behind the history and the buildings and parks and monuments and the hidden secrets all brought the city to life like I hadn't expected.

4.00Steve the guide was very informative and had a great sense of humor. Unfortunately, 2 members of the tour group kept wandering off and Steve was a distracted at some points trying to track them down. Once they decided to go back to their hotel, the rest of the tour went smoothly.
Must do tour. Miss this and you miss a lot of Sydney!

5.00As new visitors to Sydney, we felt like we were able to learn a lot and see a good chunk of Sydney just in a few hours. Our guide Steve was awesome; brought humor to the tour and was very knowledgeable. It was also a small group so it made it easy to engage with the tour guide. The restaurant at the end was also an awesome spot!
Well worth the time!

5.00Had the best time on this tour! Tour guide was awesome, funny and incredibly knowledgeable of Sydney and the history. I learn so much and dragged my husband back around to show him some of the best highlights. Wear layers and good walking shoes!
