Perfect for those who have just arrived, as well as locals and those who want to go deeper in learning about Australian history, culture, society and First Nations people.
Starting from Customs House, you’ll hear about Sydney’s colonisation by the British - and how their arrival impacted the original inhabitants.
Your guide will provide you with a range of perspectives on Sydney’s development, introducing Aboriginal leaders, British governors, convicts and entrepreneurs, as well as more recent arrivals.
You’ll finish with a beer at a popular brewery with views of the Bridge, the Opera House and Sydney Harbour. Over a drink, your host will give you further recommendations to make your time in Sydney special – stuff you won’t find in a guidebook!
Walk the streets in a small group so you’re not fighting to see & hear your guide or stay on the footpath.

Customs House
We start at Customs House where you'll see a scale model of all of Sydney and where we will walk (approx 4km / 2.5 miles). You'll also learn some Aboriginal place names for parts of Sydney and explore the new precinct immediately behind Customs House.
The Mint
We walk past the "Rum Hospital", which now consists of NSW Parliament, the Sydney Hospital and the Mint.

5.00Our guide, Matthew, was very organized and knowledgeable. He offered the right balance of historical, cultural and architectural anecdotes during the tour. We are travelling by cruise ship and only had 1 day to visit Sydney. The tour was a good investment and gave us an excellent overview of this beautiful city. Would highly recommend!!

5.00Matt was an excellent guide. He was very well informed and gave us a great insight into Australia's/Sydney's history. We really enjoyed all of his stories. Being a 4th generation citizen of Sydney, he had lots to tell us.

5.00We enjoyed a very informative and enjoyable “Ultimate Sydney Walking tour” with Matt from Local Sauce tours yesterday! There were only 7 people in the group which made it a more personal and interactive experience. Matt was knowledgeable, easy to understand, funny and made the effort to connect with each of us. We would definitely recommend this tour if you like learning more about the city you’re visiting in a more intimate small group experience!!

5.00Our tour lasted about 4 hours and was small, only six people including us. We walked a large circle that probably extended 8-10 blocks south of Circular Quay. Matt did a great job of explaining the Sydney back story, super friendly and went out of his way to make it a personalized experience that included everyone and maintained good conversation and rhythm. 10/10 would recommend.

5.00Overall, we had a great time! This tour hit the mark. Jake was a fantastic tour guide and took us logically through the history of Sydney and Australia and The Rocks. He was engaging and we enjoyed the stories of the area. The Ultimate Sydney Walking Tour lived up to its name and I would 100% recommend it to friends who come to Sydney. If they can get Jake as a tour guide even better! He is incredibly personable which makes a great tour. I would absolutely do a tour with him again too,
