Due to the delicate ecosystem within the Waitomo Caves, photography is not permitted inside.

Due to uneven surfaces & stairs, this tour is not recommended for those with walking disabilities or using a wheelchair.

Not recommended for travelers with severe mobility difficulties - A moderate amount of walking is involved.

The cave was very unique to see and the hot springs was a nice walk, with many features to see and experience.

Very long day, more time on the bus than at the actual venues. This should definitely be 2 different days and from closer locations as the bus ride was too long even with comfort stops.

This was basically a shuttle service to go to two "must-see" activities near Auckland. But our driver was nice and gave some information as we traveled through the countryside. Plenty of "comfort stops" and chances to buy snacks. We were picked up and then drove south 2.5 hours to glowworm caves (this site has their own guides and we loved ours) then we drove 2.5 east to Rotorua (they also have their own guides and we had another great one!) then back north to Auckland (3 hour drive). If I were to do it again we would go to Hobbiton and Rotorua (because they're near each other) and then go to glow worm caves on a different day/separate excursion--there are a couple of different options to see those caves. Because of fitting in both tours they really only have time to allot 30 minutes for lunch. We were glad we had our Subway sandwiches so we didn't have to wait for food orders.

Great alternative to renting a car. It is a lot of travel time but stunning scenery. Our driver/guide Michael made the trip with commentary on many topics: historical, geological, ecological, etc. He also has an eclectic and fascinating playlist. The highlight of my 5 days in Aukland.
