Zeplin was our guide, he was knowledgeable/informative and funny. Caves were amazing, no photos to be taken, even though some still try to take pictures. Please listen to your guide and not ruin it for the rest of the party.

We had really looked forward to this tour given the novelty of seeing the glow worms, but it felt like a tourist trap. They accurately describe that the tour takes about 45" and that there will be a boat ride to see the glow worms, however, it seemed that the majority of the tour was spent telling you what you could and couldn't do and the boat ride was approximately 5" in total. Not being able to even videotape the glowworms contributed to the disappointment. You can see glow worms for free throughout New Zealand, so I would skip the cost of this tour.

We actually did two cave tours back to back - Waitomo Glowworm Cave (50 minutes) and Ruakuri Cave (90 minutes). Both were interesting, but with 20/20 hindsight, doing one and not both would have been fine. Both caves are beautiful, and in both cases we had knowledgeable and friendly guides. The glowworms are interesting, but not as dramtic as the photos on the tour provider's website.

I think the popularity of this place exceeds the truth. It is a cave like there are thousands of others in the world (and the prettiest) with stalactites and stalagmites. The guide says don't touch them, but he does touch them. He did not want to sing in the "cathedral" because he sang badly. In addition, you need to have a certain level of English to understand everything. They've been operating this place for generations but it's a lot of publicity for what it really is. The glowworms are at the end in a boat in complete darkness. This looks a lot like my Christmas electric garlands. You can't take pictures or talk....Disappointing!

They pump tourists through here like you are a herd of cattle. Mary Francis was our guide. She talked so fast and was hard to understand. We were in a group of about 20 going from Station to station in the cave. Often she started talking before all of us got there. And then the guide in the group behind us talked so loud it was hard to hear her, especially when she sang. The second part of the tour was in a small boat on the water in the cave. The glowworms were amazing to see - it looked like we were looking up at lots of small blue stars. I’m glad we did it, but the overall experience wasn’t great. Also, you couldn’t take pictures until the very end, and then the boat was moving so the photos didn’t turn out as you had to hold still for 3 seconds.

Good experience and well worth the overall tour, but the glowworm "cave" is the last 5 minutes of a 45 minute guided cave tour - which was very good and gave background information on the glowworm

A iconic experience like no other in New Zealand! The glow worm cave was a bucket list item & it was more magical then I pictured!! Waitomo Glowworm Cave have their entire experience down pat! Super easy to find, large parking lot, scan you pre ordered ticket at desk, go towards entrance! Everyone who worked there was kind & helpful! You started your tour going down into the cave to learn about the cave system itself. That part of the tour was really interesting! Our tour guide, Ace, was so fun! He had jokes, had such passion about the place & interacted with everyone. After the cave tour, you go down ever deeper into the cave! They have boats waiting to get on. Our tour was towards the end of the day & wasn’t full. So it was nice each couple got their own entire row on the boat. Ace then glided the boat into the cave with complicated rope system above head. Really interesting to see how they have the boat system set up to see the glowworms. You go into the glowworms cavern. The entire ceiling is sparking bright blue lights. It was really cool to see how many there are & witness the magic. ** PLEASE RESPECT THE RULES & DO NOT TAKE CELLPHONE PHOTOS IN THIS SPACE!!! ENJOY IT WITH YOUR EYES ALONE & RESPECT NATURE. PLUS ITS COOL TO SAY YOU SAW SOMETHING ONE OF A KIND WITH NO PHOTOS- ADDS MYSTERY! ** After boat finished its lap under the glistening ceiling, we ended up coming into the light & out of the cave! You simply go up the stairs & exit thru the gift shop! Super smooth run tour & such an amazing experience to witness in person with your own eyes!

I wasn’t sure what to expect because it seemed kind of touristy, but they did a great job of letting people see this natural phenomenon without making you feel like cattle.

Well run experience, doesn’t take very long though, and some damp stairs to walk on, in low light levels, so be prepared with appropriate footwear.
