Be amazed by the thousands of magical glowworms above on this 45-minute, small group guided tour, as you glide silently by boat in the world famous Waitomo Glowworm Caves. Many of the current guides are descendants of the Maori chief who originally explored the cave and can share with you the remarkable history of the area. Guided since the late 1880s, this is the original, iconic New Zealand attraction.

The facility is very well laid out and informative. The tour guides were very knowledgeable, and the caves were paved and easy to negotiate. The staff will allow you to join an earlier tour if you are there early and there is space available. Parking is sufficient.

I was very disappointed because we did not know the caves were over 1.5 hrs away from the cruise ship. Our scheduled time was early so we missed it. It’s my fault for not checking but I also feel like I could have been told. Every other excursion I bought kept me updated on where I needed to be and what time. They made sure I was aware of everything, but not this excursion. I did not receive any messages at all, I even sent them one asking if we were meeting or if I needed to handle my own transportation and I heard nothing from them. I lost a lot of money on this excursion.

Wear warm clothes. Walker used till railing trail and it was good for limitex mobility access. Arrive at least 30 minutes ahead of tour time as google takes you to a hotel a block away. enjoy the cafe and Homestead market in the area.
