Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park
The Navajo culture has thrived on the land between the Four Scared Mountains, and those teachings have been inherited through generations of verbal and lesson teaching methods. Some of these teachings are shared with you during the Cultural Tour by your Navajo guide. The Cultural, 3.5 hour tour makes a first stop at the famous John Ford’s Point where many of John Wayne’s western cinematic movies were filmed. Next, your guide will drive to The Backcountry of the park and escort you to the “Sun’s Eye Arch" and Hogan Demonstration. At “Sun’s Eye Arch” you will be standing at a specific degree to look up into the rock arch and see why it is named Sun’s Eye. At the same location you will also see Petroglyphs and hear your guide’s stories. Next, you will travel to the “Big Hogan.” The Big Hogan is a great place to take family pictures and lie against the rocks and feel its warmth. Your guide will provide stories and suggest great photo shots. The last stop in the Backcountry is the “Ear of the Wind.” This is the largest arch in the park, and your guide will escort you to a photogenic spot where you can take photographs. Next, you will be guided to the Totem Pole and Yei Bi Cheii Monuments where you will be able to take photographs and hear the cultural stories behind each monument. The last stop is at the North Window where you will have a chance to take pictures of the Mittens and Butte at a different angle. Your tour guide will then slowly and safely transport you back to your departure point. Unfortunately, we cannot give much information about our guides’ stories because each guide has very uniquely different stories to tell. Our guides’ stories come from personal experience, lore, legends and the Navajo culture.

We did the 3.5 hour cultural tour with Joe/Joseph and it was worth every penny. Joe is an absolute treasure trove of knowledge about Dineh/Navajo culture. Our 11 and 9 year olds loved the fun photo ops and extra special experiences like the music in the cave and rug weaving demonstration. We even got some fry bread at one of the photo stops. Book this tour!

We paid a little extra to have a private tour. I cannot say enough good things about our guide Yvonne and our overall tour experience. She was very personable and engaging. She helped us with iPhone camera settings to take the best pictures. She shared the history of the people who have lived and continue to live in Monument Valley. Hearing the history while viewing the beautiful landscape was really powerful. We visited a hogan where we saw a weaving demonstration and heard about the daily life here. My favorite part was looking up at the ceiling in the Big Hogan and listening to our guide play her wooden flute. Highly recommend Dineh Bekeyah Tours!

Our guide Clint was fantastic Ask for him. He was fantastic. Being a huge John Ford fan, Monument Valley was always a bucket list destination. It certainly didn't disappoint. Clint, an Indegenous person not only explained the Butte, and Mesa formations, but made it a spiritual journey through the Tribal land. It was so much more than I expected, and would recommend it (and him) highly.

Incredible. An unforgettable experience, comfortable tour, amazing views. Absolutely recommended without a doubt. I don't know if I will be able to do it again, but if I ever return to the area, I will definitely repeat it. We had a good guide, Harry, who took our photos and recommended where to take them.

It is a unique and very informative tour. The guide was great and her knowledge of the history of the Valley couldn't be better. She had use listening from start to finish and even showing us pictures she took of the different seasons of the Valley. The Valley was beautiful but the history that went with it made it extra special.

It was a very cold day, luckily the staff chose a closed car instead of the open one that we booked.
