Irazu Volcano National Park
The tour will begin with us trekking south along the Panamerican Highway until we reach the base of the behemoth “Iztaru” (a name of an indigenous village that was situated on the flanks of the volcano, and a likely candidate as a possible origin for the current name of the Irazu Volcano). The winding road traverses fertile lands in which all types and forms of vegetation are cultivated, all the while affording us a spectacular panoramic view of the surrounding hills and valleys. And, at the very top of the summit, on a clear day, one can be privy to an unforgettable bird’s eye view of both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
Santuario Nacional Nuestra Senora de Los Angeles
A renowned pilgrimage site for many believers—some walking for days or even weeks as an act of faith—the Basilica features impressive vaulted ceilings and stunning stained-glass windows. It’s truly a must-see landmark in Costa Rica.

Our guide was friendly and very knowledgeable. He explained a lot about the volcano, the basilica and the hot springs. We were lucky and had incredible views of the volcano, with an extra lookout area added in. Following it up with the hot springs was very relaxing.

Such a great day! Daniel was a fantastic tour guide- fun and silly and flexible. He clearly enjoys his job and it shows. We got a great tour of the volcano, spent time learning and visiting two churches, saw amazing vistas along the way and then we ended with a perfect 3 hours at the hot springs. It was amazing there, idyllic actually. The lunch included was delish. Overall a good deal, considering your lunch and entrance fees are paid to the hot springs. Anyhow it was a long day (12 hours) but really great. Also they gave us a tour through the streets of SJ, explaining important sites along the way, which was an unexpected surprise. It was a great day in a comfortable van with a safe driver.
