I'm leaving one star, and I want to be clear right away that it is not a verdict on the tour itself. It's a deliberate flag, because I'm hoping it actually gets read. Our very first contact in Indonesia was the driver who picked us up at Medan airport, part of the transport you subcontract. At the airport I asked him where I could buy a SIM card, and he waved it off: "don't worry, I've got something better on the way." Instead of an official Telkomsel point, he brought me to an unofficial vendor who charged me double the normal price. The woman who set it up was unpleasant, and on top of that she did the job badly: she registered the SIM incorrectly, my connection was cut about ten days later, and I had to go all the way back to sort it out. I needed the connectivity since there is almost no signal in Bukit Lawang, so I had paid up, but it was a scam, plain and simple, and it was our very first impression of the country. And here is exactly why it stings: everything else was extraordinary. We did the 3-day, 2-night trek, and the guides were outstanding, deeply knowledgeable and genuinely respectful of the animals. We saw orangutans in the wild, the food was delicious, and the accommodation was far better than we expected. On everything your team runs directly, this is a five-star experience we would recommend to anyone. That contrast is the whole point. It's painful to watch a service this good get undermined by a cheap scam from a subcontracted driver, on the first interaction a guest has with you. Please keep a close eye on the drivers you work with. They are the first thing your guests meet, and they can quietly undo the trust your team works so hard to earn.

Our guides Nico and Teddy made this trek a memorable experience. Very attentive to our safety and sensitive to the respect of wildlife and flora, they allowed us to see several orangutans and other species. We will also remember these beautiful moments of sharing and laughter during the delicious meals, always prepared with care. Thank you again to Nico and Teddy for their kindness, their gentleness, and the good atmosphere they created within the group. We recommend it 100%.

Our 2-day, 1-night trekking experience with Zuan and Nico was absolutely incredible! Thanks to their dedication, knowledge, and sharp eyes, we were lucky enough to see orangutans, gibbons, pig-tailed macaques, Thomas's leaf monkeys, and hornbills. They always went the extra mile to help us spot wildlife and make the most of every moment in the jungle. Zuan and Nico are truly the best guides we could have hoped for. They taught us so much about the rainforest, the animals, and the local ecosystem, and they were always happy to answer our questions. Their passion and enthusiasm made the experience even more special. We also want to highlight the excellent organization of Sumatra Orangutan Explorer. From our arrival at the airport to our stay and trek in Bukit Lawang, everything was perfectly arranged and completely stress-free. We never had to worry about anything and could simply enjoy the adventure. We highly recommend this trek to everyone visiting Sumatra. It was an unforgettable experience and one of the highlights of our trip! Thank you, Zuan and Nico! ❤️🌿🦧

It was incredible from start to finish. We saw plenty of monkeys, including orangutans. All the meals were delicious and carefully prepared by our guides: Dian and Badu. We slept well; the mosquito net was very effective too! A superb experience that we are not likely to forget. And thank you for the organization, which was excellent. 🙏🏽

We stayed at the Sumatra Orangutan Explore accommodation the night before our trek and were impressed from the moment we arrived. The hotel was spotless, beautifully set out, and the restaurant served delicious food. We have just completed the 2-day/1-night jungle trek with our guides, Didi and Echo, and all I can say is wow! Words cannot describe how incredible this experience was. We were lucky enough to see so many orangutans in their natural habitat, which was truly unforgettable. We were travelling with our 10-year-old son, and Didi and Echo were absolutely amazing with him. They were patient, encouraging, and took the time to explain so much about the jungle, wildlife, and environment throughout the trek. Their knowledge and passion really made the experience special. The trek itself is challenging at times, but definitely achievable and 100% worth it. The overnight jungle camp was an incredible experience, and the food provided was beyond amazing—something we never expected in the middle of the jungle! If you're thinking about booking with this company, don't hesitate. They go above and beyond in every way and have given our family memories that will last a lifetime. Thank you, Didi, Echo, and the entire Sumatra Orangutan Explore team for an unforgettable adventure
