An extinct volcano, the top of wonchi is 3380 meters above sea level, is a crater that contains a large lake, hot mineral springs, waterfalls, beautiful valleys and farmland. There is an old monastery with a church situated on one of the lake islands.

What To Expect
1. Depart Addis Ababa and drive through the Ethiopian Highlands, passing Oromo villages, farms, valleys, and mountains while learning about local life and crops such as teff, barley, wheat, potatoes, and Enset (false banana). 2. Arrive at Wenchi Crater Lake and enjoy views of a volcanic crater surrounded by forests, cliffs, waterfalls, and a lake. 3. Take a guided hike with short or longer routes depending on your fitness level, with scenic viewpoints and photo stops. 4. Walk nature trails, cross a suspension bridge, and enjoy landscapes. 5. Spot Black-and-White Colobus Monkeys in the forest. 6. Visit natural warm mineral springs with optional bathing. 7. Walk along the peaceful lakeshore surrounded by volcanic scenery. 8. Optional horseback ride down to the lakeshore through highland paths. 9. Optional boat trip across the crater lake to the island monastery. 10. On Sundays, visit a local market with Oromo trade of produce, spices, livestock, baskets, textiles, and crafts. 11. Enjoy a traditional Ethiopian lunch with local families. 12. Experience a coffee ceremony. 13. Return to Addis Ababa after a full-day experience.

5.00I booked this tour right before leaving Ethiopia, and I’m glad I did. Yonas (our guide) tailored the experience to accommodate everyone’s interests in the group and he was also very knowledgeable about all aspects of the tour. The crater lake itself is stunning and there are a few activities to choose from that suite your interests - we ended up going to the market and hiking up and down the crater as well. I highly recommend this tour for anyone that is considering it.

5.00This was a wonderful trip and organised brilliantly. Yonas was a knowledgeable tour guide and was extremely flexible to accommodate to our (changing!) needs. We did this as a day-trip and was advised to leave early so that we had maximum time to enjoy the crater and the beautiful surroundings. The drive from Addis is pleasant and you will pass through lots of greenery and small villages with ample photo ops. Having a local lunch and observing the infamous coffee ceremony was incredibly special. I wouldn’t hesitate to book future tours with Yonas!

5.00Yonas organised an amazing trip to Lake Wenchi! The guide met us seamlessly and had a perfect day planned out - a great hike round the stunning lake, seeing all the sites and viewing points for rhus stunning scenery, visiting the church by boat, and a traditional ethiopian lunch. I live in Addis and it was the perfect day out, a big thanks to Yonas !
