This tour was a mixed bag for us. Prior to the start of our tour, the operator pushed back the start one hour due to a "political event" on the island. After boarding a bus at the cruise pier, we were driven from Ronne to the small town of Gudhjem. En route, the driver missed a turn and we arrived in Gudheim late. This will be relevant later. We were dropped off near a couple of small stores without any information or history on the town, and basically wandered for a half hour. The fish smoking shop was interesting and we enjoyed a quick espresso at Bech Chokolade before hopping back in the bus, but there was nothing special about the town. Our next stop was the Hammershus ruins. The castle is impressive and the guide provided some basic information, but the placards posted around the ruins were far more informative. As we went to leave, we discovered that the visitor center had already closed and locked its doors - meaning we had to detour 15 minutes to exit through an alternative entrance. After the ruins, we were supposed to be taken into Ronne to sightsee and shop. We deliberately waited for this stop to get our traditional souvenir. We were stunned to discover that we were instead going straight to the cruise ship because we were running 30 minutes late. When we reached out to the tour operator to express our concern about missing 1/3 of the itinerary due to errors by the guide and driver, he blamed road congestion and a political event on the island the day of our tour. At no point were any of the roads we traveled congested. We were one of only two tours at Gudhjem when we were there and one of only 3 at the ruins. The event he spoke of was between those two stops and already in progress, meaning we had zero issues with traffic or parking all day. Our guide seemed overwhelmed all day and unable to adjust due to the delayed start, which cost us the time in Ronne. The stop at Hammershus is impressive and definitely worth a visit. Gudhjem could be any town anywhere in Scandinavia and easily skipped. For what we paid, we expected more than a ride to the castle ruins and a drop off in a town without history. YMMV, but I wouldn't recommend this experience if it has a delayed start.

This tour takes you to many of the key sights plus the castle ruins. If you are interested in walking up to and through the castle ruins take a different tour because time doesn’t allow for that. Toe in, our Guide, and his driver were really good people and very friendly and helpful.

This tour was a little disorganized. The castle ruins were amazing, but it closed while we were inside, requiring a short hike around the visitor centers locked door. Would have liked more time in town to experience more of the cuisine.

A little bit of kinks with the tour- several had trouble finding our guide (we never saw her holding the sign for our tour and no a/c in the bus- we were able to roll the windows down so it was comfortable). But the tour was excellent and we loved the small town and the castle ruins!
