This extended Lake Skadar boat tour begins in Virpazar and adds a visit to the historic fishing village of Karuč. We first cruise past the remains of Lesendro Fortress and several small islands before entering narrow channels surrounded by reeds and lush vegetation. This quieter part of the lake, often called the “Amazon,” is known for its calm waters, birdlife, and untouched scenery.
Leaving the main routes behind, we continue toward Karuč, a small village set between hills and the lake. After arriving, we take a short 10-minute walk to a viewpoint above the village, where guests can enjoy the scenery, take photos, and learn more about the area.
Karuč is known for its many natural springs—around 54 in total—some reaching depths of over 50 meters, while the average depth of Lake Skadar is about 5 meters. The village was also the winter residence of Petar I Petrović Njegoš.
This tour combines the natural beauty of Lake Skadar with the history and quiet character of the region.

What To Expect
Karuc
Guests who choose my offer will have the opportunity to pass exactly 16km from Virpazar to Karuc, on the way they will pass many canals, see different species of birds, my favorite part of the lake (Amazon) and eventually reach the fishing village of Karuc. Where will we stop, get off the boat and climb together to the viewpoint from which there is a fantastic view of the village and the access channel, which hides secrets that people can only dream of. After my explanation and taking pictures of the guests at the viewpoint, we return to the boat and go along a completely different channel back towards Virpazar.

An unforgettable boat tour on Lake Skadar

5.00A few days ago we booked the 2-hr private boat tour on Lake Skadar with Milan and we can only highly recommend it. Milan is a very friendly, knowledgeable and experienced tour guide explaining everything about the lake, nature and its inhabitants. To us, it was the highlight of our stay in Montenegro and truly unforgettable thanks to Milan. The price for the tour might be a bit higher than the standard ones, but the money is well spent. Our tour started at 08.00AM and Milan was very reliable and arrived on time. He showed us beautiful spots on Lake Skadar, the Amazon branch among others, that you can only reach with the smaller boat. Those are truly exceptional gems to see. Our tour ended at the small fishing village Karuc, where we reached a spectacular view over the lake after a short climb. Thank you, Milan, for showing us this really special part of Montenegro!

5.00We had a fantastic tour on Lake Skadar with Milan from Melina Boat Tours. Milan grew up by the lake and knows the nature, history, and the most beautiful spots in the region like few others. Thanks to the speedboat, we were able to travel to the fishing village of Karuč in just under three hours and discover much more of the lake than on the usual standard tours. The viewpoint above Karuč, with its beautiful view over the lake, was a true highlight. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour with Milan and can wholeheartedly recommend it!

5.00Thank you for this truly beautiful and interesting tour! We were able to see so many different birds and learned a lot about the lake and the nature there. My highlight was the pelicans and the narrow canals that looked like those in the Amazon. Incredible! 2 unforgettable hours. My dog was also warmly welcomed. 5.00It was a fantastic tour; nice boat, 9.30am left and it was still quiet, plants, lots of birds including the pelicans seen up close! Views, Amazon feeling. Milan was a perfect captain who explained the lake but also had a nice chat. It was more than relaxed and absolutely worth it. One of the highlights of our visit to Montenegro! 5.00Definitely book it; it was the highlight of our Montenegro vacation. We became aware of Milan because we booked the great Milena apartment from his mother in Virpazar. In the early morning at 7:00 AM, we started our 2.5-hour private boat tour. Milan was absolutely punctual and showed us stunning spots on Lake Skadar, such as the side arm Amazonas, which cannot be reached by larger boats. Additionally, he took us to the fishing village of Karuc, a small cove with so-called eyes (deep underground springs). A short climb provides an incomparable view over Lake Skadar. During the trip, Milan informed and showed us the diverse wildlife and plant life (such as pelicans), and he has extensive knowledge. The boat tour was very informative and overall successful... we were completely thrilled. By the way, we also received great tips for restaurants and panoramic views.

5.00Everything was perfect. Lake Skadar is beautiful and definitely best experienced from a private boat. We did the 2.5h speedboat tour to Karuč with Milan and it was one of the best activity of our trip to Montenegro. Milan is super knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and adapts to every level of English ! He shared very interesting information about the lake, the history, answered all our questions, and helped us spot pelicans, kingfishers, grebes and more.
