The first stop of the day is the town Hveragerði, where we have a short restroom stop. Hveragerði is about 45 min drive from Reykjavik. There are restrooms, a bakery and an exhibition about earth quakes. Consider this a short pit-stop on our way to the Golden Circle.
Gullfoss Falls
Gullfoss, is one of the most famous waterfalls in Iceland. It is powerful and tall. Through it the river Hvítá, which is a glacier river originating from Langjökull, plunges down this two step waterfall. There are a handful of viewing platforms to observe the waterfall and above Gullfoss there is Gullfoss center where there are restrooms, a cafeteria and gift shops. NOTE: The path leading all the way up to the waterfall is closed during the winter season.

Drive is scenic. The guide tells stories that made the trip interesting. The water falls is stunning. The climb closer to the falls could be a challenge to physically unfit.

Lots of driving! This is an outdoor experience so it’s not as nice when the weather is windy, overcast, with a bit of drizzle. Our “small group” tour had 17 people. Would have preferred a native Icelander for guide - ours was a bit hard to understand and her stories seemed at times to be at odds with other stories about these areas that we have heard. You are left on your own to explore; other tours had their guides with them explaining what we were experiencing. Fair amount of explanatory signs to help. All in all, not worth a day and the price sorry to say.

We had a lovely experience on this tour. The sights we saw were absolutely impressive, the time spent on each of them was sufficient, and we didn't get bored in the bus thanks to the beatiful view, but also thanks to our driver and guide Nico, who had a lot of interesting facts for us, was extremely funny and very careful with all of us. Thank you!

Most of the highlights around Reykjavik were covered. If you have a day to tour this one is the one for you.

This amazing lava tube is a fascinating look at underground Iceland. Bring your coat , gloves and sturdy shoes. And don’t be afraid of the dark! The provided helmets with headlights and walking sticks are a must. Our amazing guide Francesca taught us the tunnels secrets while dancing to the neon lights. Highly recommend!

How much can you visit in one day, while still giving you enough time to do things at each site? This tour certainly checked all boxes, and then some more. Our guide Lara took us to all the sites you see listed on the activity, giving us enough time at each place (you know, considering this is a time limited tour). And then because we were ahead of schedule, she added on brief stops at a horse farm, greenhouse, ice cream store. And throughout Lara’s narration was humorous, personal, contextual, and filled with knowledge of Icelandic traditions. I’ve done a lot of Viator tours over the years. This was one of my best experiences.
