This is on most Southern Utah bucket lists, you’ll find the local favorite one-two punch of Peek-a-Boo and Spooky Slot Canyons. These magnificent hikes, located in the Dry Fork area of the Grand Staircase–Escalante National Monument make for a killer loop you can tackle in one afternoon of adventure. Once you’re in, all you have to do is walk through a scenic paradise of red and purple rock, arches, and narrow slot canyons.
This tour is around 5 miles total hiking distance and is considered moderate hiking going up and down hills.
From the trailhead, we will hike through Dry Fork Wash, you’ll hike along the creek wash until you see the mouth of Peek-a-Boo. Once you leave Peek-a-Boo, we will hike to the entrance of Spooky Gulch. Scramble down a mellow rock face to get into the canyon. It soon tightens up, and you’ll be having a good time navigating the confines of this fun canyon.
Being on time is imperative, if you are more than 15 minutes late we will leave without you.

Peekaboo Gulch
The slot canyon is most famous because of the last 100 meters, before the junction with Dry Fork of Coyote Gulch - here the ravine cuts deeper into the sandstone, with a series of interlinked potholes, extravagant swirls and fins of rock, and several arches; these different openings and the many corners and crevices account for the curious name of this canyon. The hiking portion is 5 miles total. 1.5 miles to and from the slot canyons and about .5 miles in each canyon.
Spooky Gulch
Only 10 inches wide at some points, Spooky is appropriately named. It is possible to travel almost halfway through before the first of two climbs, so go ahead and squeeze through as far as you dare.

Our guide, Gary, was fun and experienced. There were several sections where his advice on foot and hand placement made a huge difference. We had an amazing time with a group of 5.

We had a great experience on our guided hike through Peekaboo/Spooky canyon. Our guide, Gary, was truly exceptional. He guided us through every difficult area of the canyons including acting as a stepping stool and lowering us into some of the larger drops. We are in our 60's and in good shape, but we could not have finished this hike without his assistance. He knows the area like the back of his hand and was even kind enough to help some people who were lost or confused. Great experience, great day! Thanks for making our day so fun and worry free! Well worth it!

Thank you Neal for being an absolute gem! The tour itself is amazing no matter what, but you are a treasure! Thank you for your assistance getting around the slot canyons, for being a joy to be around, and for having a wonderful sense of humor. Hands down our favorite tour in Utah!

Our guide, Gary Pollock was amazing! Very smart and highly skilled. Spooky is no joke. It is quite challenging and he went above and beyond for us and several others that were struggling to get through the bottleneck there. He was entertaining ,very patient and encouraging. We couldn’t have had a better experience. We feel fortunate he was our guide. If you go, ask for Gary!

A 45 minute drive in an ATV out to the middle of nowhere. Walking through three different slot canyons, each with different challenges. We were new to hiking slot canyons and were very glad we went with a guide.

Using a guide is a must do for this trio of slot canyons. We highly recommend Neal. His years of experience and expert knowledge will get you through all of the slot canyons safely and confidently. We would have never made it otherwise. He provided great guidance on the best way through, as well as placing himself to give us extra foot holds, or a shoulder to lessen the impact of downhill slides/jumps. We would have never accomplished the bouldering, ledge climbing. shimmying, and rock climbing without his guidance and help. We thoroughly enjoyed the hard work to get the amazing views and the experience! Note: as we were heading out on the trail, we passed several groups that said they weren’t able to get through Peekaboo and Spooky so they turned around. We are so glad we didn’t have to miss out and we owe it all to Neal!
