Shennong Street
On Shennong Street, you can see well-preserved traditional old houses . Here, you can also learn about the historical connection between the old Five Canals trading area and this street, as well as the origin of the name “Shennong Street.” At night, the lanterns are lit up, creating a strong old-street atmosphere that is well worth experiencing slowly and in detail.
Starting near Xiluo Hall, we explore one of Tainan’s most fascinating historical walking routes. We visit Jieguanting, once a ceremonial reception pavilion where Qing Dynasty officials arriving by sea were formally welcomed. You can imagine it as the city’s historic “arrival gate”—a place where important guests first stepped into Tainan. From there, we continue into the old city streets and visit Fengshen Temple, a rare temple dedicated to the Wind Deity, deeply connected to Taiwan’s maritime culture and beliefs. This journey brings you through layers of Tainan’s past—where history, religion, and everyday life come together in one walking experience.
