The historic Belize City tour offers an interesting insight into the old capital city of Belize. Belize City is the largest city in the Central American region of Belize and was once the capital of former British Honduras until the government was moved to the new capital of Belmopan in 1970. The population of Belize City is 67,964; with neighboring suburbs adding up to about 80,000. Several cruise ships drop anchor outside the port and are tended by local citizens.
Belize City was founded (originally as “Belize Town”) in 1638 by British lumber harvesters. It had previously been a small Maya city called Holzuz.
Belize Town slowly improved its infrastructure and has been the object of numerous infrastructural projects. Nevertheless, many of the streets built from colonial days are still small and congested, a majority of houses are still susceptible to fire and damage from hurricanes.

Avoid Belize Caribbean Tours – Misleading Sales Tactics and below Poor Experience Trust the reviews and my name is Natasha. We completed the worse tour with them on June 16 and I want to give 0 stars but we have to select something. We are a family of 19 (11 adults) cruising on Royal Caribbean's Enchantment of the Seas, and booking with Belize Caribbean Tours was one of the biggest mistakes of our cruise. We purchased a package from a salesperson named Jason inside the Belize Village Port. He specifically presented and sold us a package that should have included: • A city tour for all 19 people • Rum tasting tour • Beach/water park access • Three children free on the city tour • Two six-year-old children admitted free to the beach/water park Jason held up a photo board showing all three experiences and clearly stated he was giving our group "a deal" that will include the city tour, rum tasting, and beach package for $40 per person. At no point did he describe the rum tasting as "complimentary," optional, or subject to availability. You would think that tour would start off with a city tour highlighting key sites and Belize culture, then rum tasting followed by a couple of hours at the beach. What we actually received was completely different. Instead of a dedicated tour experience, we were placed on an old school bus with tourists from multiple cruise ships with different ship departure times and open windows for cool air. The so-called "city tour" was nothing more than a drive to the beach facility where the guide pointed out two hotels under construction, a memorial statue in a roundabout, a fishery, houses own by alleged wealthy, a few schools and photos of the jaguar, flowers and rum. That was the extent of the city tour. There was no rum tasting or rum tour or a real city tour. When questioned, both the driver and tour guide openly stated that the salespeople don't clearly explain the tour is only the beach and that the rum tasting was merely "complimentary." That directly contradicted what was sold to us. To make matters worse, passengers with 4:00 PM ship departures were mixed with passengers departing at 5:00 PM, creating unnecessary stress and poor time management. Several other passengers on our bus expressed similar frustrations about being promised experiences that were never delivered. The driver Bud and tour guide, DJ, dropped us off at 11:45am and instructed that we have 2 hours at the beach before they return to get us. They left with some passengers that were not doing the beach and was doing something else. At 1:45pm, my family and 5 other passengers came out to the parking lot to find no bus, Bud or DJ. The supervisor, Philip, showed up at 1:50PM telling us that our pickup is 2:30/2:45pm and basically we got it wrong. That's 3 groups of family got it wrong. One guy and his family was not concerned because their ship was leaving at 5pm. On our way at 2:50pm and as a result of my notifying them of my intended review, they began to offer a 10 minutes rum tasting and South side tour before heading to the tender and telling us we'll be at the doc no later than 3:15PM. We refused because the last tender is scheduled for 4 PM. Our impression was that Belize Caribbean Tours was more focused on making a large sale to our group than on providing the experience they advertised and committed to. We got stiffed big time by Jason and Belize Caribbean tour. After reading additional reviews afterwards, I realized that our experience was not unique. I would not recommend Belize Caribbean Tours. If you're visiting Belize, either book directly through your cruise line or thoroughly research independent operators with strong, consistent reviews (4.5 stars and above). Unfortunately, we didn't have time to do that and paid the price with a disappointing excursion. Our other stops with tour guides in Roatan, Costa Maya and Cozumel has been amazing. Belize Caribbean Tours ruined the Belize experience. Very misleading and highly disappointing experience. Oh, lets not forget my sister in law who had a stroke and amputated leg was not allowed to take her foldable wheelchair on the bus - she was subjected to walking. Bud informed us after we paid. I wish I can report them on all platforms to warn future customers or hope they use this to provide exactly what they sell.

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Our Belize City Tour on March 18th (shore excursion from Grandeur of the Seas) was easily the highlight of our entire cruise, and it wasn’t just because of the sights it was because of the soul of the people. A huge shout-out to our guide, Adonis. From the moment we started, his warmth and friendly energy made us feel like family rather than just tourists. He is a fantastic ambassador for his country. The absolute best part of this tour wasn't even on the official itinerary. While stopping at a local park, we were welcomed by members of the community who treated us with incredible generosity. Without any expectation of extra payment or "upselling," they shared: A Culinary Lesson: They taught us the traditional way to make Dunkunu! Authentic Flavors: We were gifted a delicious Dunkunu and a sweet treat. True Kindness: They even provided much-needed bottles of water to keep us cool. In a world of "pre-packaged" excursions, this felt real. Within just a few minutes, we experienced the authentic culture and hospitality that makes Belize so special. It was a beautiful, unadvertised surprise that I will never forget. Thank you, Adonis, and thank you to the wonderful people of Belize City for your incredible hospitality. You have a beautiful spirit.

We had a great experience doing the Belize City Tour, feeding the monkeys, and visiting the rum factory. We were especially pleased with our tour guide Dennis. He was so kind and welcoming and very knowledgeable. He was a great tour guide and kept my family and I safe. We loved learning about Belize'a history and seeing all of the locals. Thank you for an unforgettable experience!

Mike was our tour guide on the Belize City Tour. We were in an air conditioned large bus and the tour included stops at the old Cathedral, beach park for photos and then a place to shop and eat lunch as well as taking a short train ride that tells the history of the gum (yes, for Wiggley's chewing gum) and sugar cane processing. The City tour included many sights along the way in different areas with stop signs and stop lights that nobody pays any attention to. I highly recommend this tour as there is a great deal of history, traditions, and interesting sights to take in to see Belize City.

Our Carnival Glory excursion was cancelled due to rough seas so we went ashore (tinder port) and just happened upon Belize Caribbean Tours. They gave us a deal (15% cheaper than Carnival) on the City Tour (about 1 hour) with Beach Time (2 hours). Even when we bought this, we could tell there were VERY conscientious about getting us back to port prior to "last tinder". Our tour guide Phillip is very knowledgeable about Belize City and showed us many places in the city as well as answered all questions about culture, lifestyles, finances and life in general in Belize City. We felt totally safe and encountered no issues at all. Then on to Kukumba Beach - salt water beach right on the ocean but also separated from the ocean by natural rock and a little engineering. Live DJ, food, water slides, large floaties, rope swing, plenty of shaded and unshaded beach chairs - no problem with having your choice. Plenty of bathrooms and changing facilities and showers to rinse the sand off. There is also a historical museum, gift shop (does take cards) and full restaurant (Phillip even ate here). We were returned promptly as promised as had absolutely an enjoyable time. One additional must add comment - I had left my cellphone in the tour van and this company went out of their way to find and will be shipping the phone back to me - big big kudos to Phillip and Tanizia, two of the more important people that work for this company..

Although we booked the baboon sanctuary and didn’t really see / interact with any baboons, our tour guide Jose, others known as “jungle Joe” gave us a day out that we will never forget. He was super knowledgeable and so nice! He stopped at a few places we asked him to (the Belize sign and a shopping store). He was so accommodating and just proud of his country. We drove through the city and jungle Joe was all over the microphone, pointing out so much. It was such a wonderful tour overall. We saw the city, old church and shared many laughs in the car ride! BOOK WITH JUNGLE JOE !!

The best part of this excursion was going to a park where a local woman prepared wine, cornbread and candy to try. Otherwise it was a ride through a dirty city on a bus. Our guide was well spoken but there was just not much to see or learn about.
