The building is considered an architectural icon of post-war Modernism. Initially designed by Karl Schwanzer as the Austrian pavilion for the 1958 World's Fair in Brussels, it was later adapted for the museum's purposes and opened in 1962 as the Museum of the Twentieth Century. Under the name 20er Haus, it soon established itself as a vibrant hub. In 2002 the building was transferred to the Belvedere. Renovated in 2011, it was rebranded as the Belvedere 21 in 2018.
Entry ticket only (no guided tour included). Visitors may proceed to the museums entrance directly and enjoy their visit individually.

Belvedere 21
The Belvedere in Vienna is one of the leading museums worldwide. Its famous art collection includes works ranging from the Middle Ages to the present day. Austrian art in an international context is presented in three locations (Upper and Lower Belvedere and Belvedere 21). Contemporary art, film, music, and events in a modern pavilion. 2.00This may be a go-to for art lovers and students of art. For me it was full of nonsense sculptures on the ground floor and even worse 'paintings' on the upper level. Probably spent less than seven minutes in the entire gallery and left feeling confused and disappointed. Would only recommend to anyone who has a strong appreciation of all things art.
Belvedere 21 offers modern art and may not be for everyone.

3.00I visited Belvedere 21 during Christmas period, and it wasn’t very crowded making for a peaceful experience. The museum features a diverse collection of modern art. It’s a bit of a walk from the other two Belvedere palaces. While it may not have the same grandeur as the other two, it offers a unique more contemporary art experience that may not be for everyone.
Belvedere 21 is NOT closed. It's very alive!

4.00Belvedere 21 focuses on contemporary art. It delivers top names in a modern setting. The exhibits are always leading artists and presents artists from around the world. I would totally buy the triple ticket. It's a quick 8-10 minute walk from Upper Belvedere.

1.00I recently visited the museum and had an unpleasant experience with a security guard. We opened a door to access the garden exhibits, and there were no signs indicating that the door should not be used. Despite this, the security guard yelled at us. This aggressive behavior was unwarranted and disrupted our visit.

3.00I'm not a fan of modern art, so I only went here because of the vienna pass. There is a fair amount of work on the teo floors, but to me, it was a quick visit. I'm sure someone who is more into this art style would find this of more benefit and interest.
