What To Expect
Pacaya Volcano
Pacaya Volcano is one of Guatemala’s most active and accessible volcanoes, located about an hour south of Guatemala City. It rises to over 2,500 meters (8,200 feet) and is known for frequent lava flows, steam vents, and volcanic ash activity. Visitors can hike on hardened lava fields and sometimes see glowing lava, depending on current activity. The volcano offers dramatic views of surrounding mountains and other volcanos.

5.00Ours was a private tour and was exceptional. Wear appropriate clothes and shoes. We were experienced riders but since we all had our own wangler in addition to the guide I think that no experience was necessary. We felt safe. The scenery was beautiful, the experience of having pizza at the top was fun, the driver that took us back and forth was a good driver, punctual, fun and informative, The guide that took us up the volcano made us feel very safe at all times. I recommend this excursion highly.

5.00Very good experience, Guy is very kind and knows many interesting things about Guatemala and its history. The vehicle was also very comfortable. The ascent to the volcano was very beautiful and relaxing, especially during the stops to enjoy the views; upon reaching the summit, it feels like being on another planet, and we also had very delicious pizza there. Incredible to be able to climb an active volcano :)! 10/10

5.00Great experience! Easy pickup by Guy- great drive to and back from meeting spot. He gave us a ton of information about local and regional experiences. Local guide and cow dogs were amazing. Pizza was delicious, volcano and whole experience was a complete win. The horses were gentle and knew what they were doing. Easy to ride and well cared for. Very happy with the whole day. Thank you!

5.00If you’re in Antigua, this is the tour to book! My tour guide was Guy. He was very kind, he knew so much history about Guatemala that he shared, & he was just very comfortable to be around. He took me and one other solo traveler to the market in the morning a couple hours before the tour started and we got to eat a local tortilla breakfast on the street curb. The tour itself was an experience I’ll remember for a lifetime. I road a horse all the way up Pacaya volcano, saw some really cool animals on the way, and enjoyed breathtaking views of the villages below. Once we got to the top, Guy built a little tower out of volcanic rock and we had a competition to see who could throw a stone to knock it down while we waited for pizza. I highly recommend this tour. It was absolutely the highlight of my Guatemala trip!

5.00to echo someone else, if you’re thinking about it just do it! i was thinking about it and eventually i was like why not and it was so very lovely. they picked me up from my accommodation (and then another solo traveler after) it was so simple and prompt and our tour guide was great. i felt he really added to the experience as well w his story telling and knowledge of the area. what i loved was really the essence of the experience - you’re riding horses (that they actually care about) up a volcano overlooking beautiful lush land and at times you feel like you’re in the clouds. it is magical. and our local guides who accompanied us up the volcano were also so lovely. and guys to have pizza that is cooked w lava heat by the only guy to do it truly what a freaking life experience!!!!! and then there are doggies all around and you’re eating pizza on a volcano - pizza that is cooked w lava heat (just an extra emphasis). just what a beautiful and unique experience. and when i was looking out at everything that was surrounding me, really being present i just felt this big feeling of awe. i spent 10 days in guatemala and i feel this was truly the highlight of my trip. so, i would say just do it. i feel everyone deserves this experience at least once in their life :)

5.00Horseback ride up to a pizza cook in a volcano and we got lucky and had a private tour. The communication was clear and everything was included. A little more expensive that other tours offered but worth the price to not be with a big group. We saw the big groups and we very happy to be with only our guide. Worth the price.
