I went on the Jewish Walking Tour of Plovdiv for my birthday, and it was such a fun and meaningful way to celebrate. The tour offered a fascinating look at Plovdiv’s Jewish history while also taking us through several important landmarks around the city. Alex, our tour guide, is literally an academic, and his depth of knowledge really showed throughout the tour. He was incredibly intelligent, engaging, and thoughtful in the way he explained the history. He also answered all of our questions thoroughly, and I learned so much while still feeling like the experience was relaxed and enjoyable. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone interested in Jewish history, Bulgarian history, or simply looking for a unique activity in Plovdiv.

This is an excellent tour, and we highly recommend! Alex is a great tour guide, very knowledgable and personable, and connected to the Jewish community in Plovdiv. We learned so much about the history of this community, as well as about Jewish history across Bulgaria, over centuries. We stopped at important sites, and Alex told us not only key facts, but also stories that were moving and informative. It's a complicated history and present day, and all the more important to understand.

Even though there was not much to see during this tour, learning about the very special history of jewish life in Bulgaria was surprisingly interessting. Unfortunately it was not possible to enter the synagogue, but the guide did have some pictures with him. A unique story of how a tollerant population resisted successfully the deportation of their fellow citizens
