I'm a professional truffle hunter from 3 generations in Alba. My grandfather after the 2nd world war was one of the first truffle hunters, he taught my father all the secrets about the precious "ipogean fungus" then my father taught it to me. I'm a dog trainer and actually I've got 3 great dogs: Lisa, Palli & Isi. I would like to teach "some'' of my truffle hunting secrets to travelers. During the tour you will be helped by my friend Margherita. She's an official tourist guide with great passion for truffles and local culture, translating every part of the hunting.

What To Expect
Discover the secrets and the traditional techniques in a true hunting of the precious white or black truffle with a professional "Trifolao" and his inseparable dog. Understand how, where & why truffles grow up in our area, learn the differences between black & white truffle, how dog is trained and enjoy the intense scent. Truffles found during the hunting are not included in the price but you can be purchased from the hunter. White truffle season: from 1st of October to 31st of January - black truffle:different types at different times of the year. During the autumn season, warm and comfortable clothing is recommended, rain coats and rubber boots are available. You will meet your guide in Alba (train station or cemetery), then be driven through thesurrounding hills to reach the "Trifolao" in one of its secret spots in the middle of nature. The transfer is not included, you will need your own car to follow the guide (10/15 minutes driving). Transport by hired car with a driver is provided on request. The tour usually is shared with other guests; traveling alone & reserving for one an extra charge of € 70 is required (not in case someone joins that tour).

5.00Fantastic! Margherita organized a superb excursion for us, with a lovely moment in nature in the forest, and interesting explanations. The atmosphere was warm and authentic, thanks to the hunter Giovanni and his dog Turbo, who found 4 beautiful black truffles during the walk! Special mention, we were with family and a young boy, they were very attentive to him and us, involving him in the activities.

5.00We shared a lovely and informative walk in the woods with our guide and our truffle hunting team. Truffle growing and training the dogs for hunting are fascinating and our guide made the experience engaging and fun. They kindly provided boots for the muddy walk, however make sure you bring warm socks and clothing. The sun never hits this part of the forest and the best weather for white truffles to grow is in the cold and wet season. If you consider yourself a foodie this experience shouldn’t be missed.

5.00It was an unforgettable experience - great guide, great explanations, pleasant route (which of course will not be revealed!). We were lucky enough to find, among other things, a 130 gram white Alba truffle - a wonderful fragrance. Highly recommended, who feels like the beautiful Piedmont nature!

5.00Giovane is a 3rd-generation truffler, with his Gigi make a perfect duo. Excellent experience of how such a valuable food is at risk of extinction due to lack of regular rainfall. The truffle needs moisture and snow in the winter provides this constant moisture in the dew.
