The initial section of the trek, winding through the forest, was calm and relaxing. Hearing the mountain’s natural sounds during the night created a truly peaceful atmosphere. As soon as the trail transitioned to the rocky slopes, the challenge became much more exciting. Jon did an excellent job of keeping a comfortable and steady pace that worked well for me. Breakfast at the summit was modest—bread, eggs, fruit, and coffee—but it was exactly what I needed after the climb.

Mount Agung is regarded as a sacred mountain, and after this experience, I can understand why. The atmosphere feels truly unique, especially during the peaceful pre-dawn hours. Wayan organized everything perfectly, making the entire journey smooth and stress-free so I could concentrate on the trek itself. After the hike, the comfortable air-conditioned drive back to Ubud was exactly what I needed, as exhaustion had already set in by mid-morning. It was a challenging climb, but absolutely worth the effort.

Our group was dreading the early morning wake-up call, but it was so worth it. The driver let us sleep in the air-conditioned van on the way to the starting point. The hike itself is a beast. You’re basically doing the StairMaster for hours. But having Kadek lead the way and seeing the first golden rays hit the ocean and Lombok in the distance makes you forget how much your legs hurt.

We did this hike with our 16 and 18-year-old, and it was the highlight of our family vacation. It’s definitely not for young kids, as the trail is steep and demanding. Our guide Jon was fantastic, constantly checking in on everyone's energy levels and making sure we stayed hydrated. Watching the sunrise together from the top of the volcano was a really special bonding moment for us.

Waking up at 1 AM on vacation feels wrong until you find yourself above the clouds. The organization of this tour was flawless. No hidden fees, tickets were included, and Juna handed out walking sticks right at the base. The climb is relentless, but standing up there with the spiritual energy of the sacred volcano all around you is pure magic.

We aren't professional hikers by any means, so we were pretty nervous about tackling Agung. The local guides are the real MVPs here. Nyoman literally held my hand during the slippery gravel parts and kept encouraging us when we wanted to quit. The sense of achievement when you finally sit down at the summit is indescribable.

If you are debating doing this, just book it! Yes, your legs will be jelly for two days afterwards, but the views are unmatched. We loved that it wasn't packed with hundreds of tourists like some other spots in Bali. Gede was our guide and kept the whole vibe wild and authentic. The provided breakfast was a nice touch to warm us up while we waited for the sun.

Nobody warned us just how chilly it gets at 3,000+ meters before the sun comes up! Luckily, the hike up keeps you sweating. The provided headlamps worked perfectly and illuminated the tricky forest path. Our guide Wayan was super knowledgeable about the volcano's history and the local culture. Seeing the peak of Rinjani floating on the horizon was breathtaking.

As a solo traveler, I’m always cautious about booking night tours, but I felt 100% comfortable the entire time. The driver picked me up right from my Ubud villa. The hike is strenuous, but Ketut was the absolute best, making sure I could go at my own pace. Getting to the top and having a hot cup of tea while the sky cycles through purple, orange, and gold was a core memory for sure.

The walking poles they give you are an absolute lifesaver on the descent. Going down is almost harder than going up because of the loose volcanic rock! The team was so professional and our guide Jenar had such a great sense of humor, which really helped keep our spirits up when we were exhausted. 10/10 experience.
