The plantation grounds were beautiful. The tour of the Big House could have had more commentary and it would be nice to see more of the home. The visit was enjoyable, but overall would have liked to learn more and see more.

  • Contrast how two peoples lived

Booked this tour with transportation so we didn’t have to do the driving. Our driver Alton was great and provided commentary during the ride to and from. The time at the plantation is a bit limited, but adequate. We had read that this particular experience doesn’t focus enough on the life of the enslaved people, but we felt it did show the stark contrast between slave life and life in the big house.

  • Beautiful Property & Excellent Staff, but Bring Your Own Mobility Aid if Needed

    Rita D,May 27, 2026

Dominique from Gray Line Tours was very welcoming, an exceptional driver, and immediately made us feel welcome. Oak Alley Plantation is a beautiful property and their staff was full of kindness and information about it, thank you Stephen! We really liked that most places you entered within the property had air conditioning. One concern was not having any wheelchairs or electronic mobility scooters on property for guests. I recently broke my foot and didn't have access to one personally, so having to manage on my crutches alone was tricky and unsettling. Overall a great experience for the whole family. We would definitely recommend Oak Alley Plantation to anyone who visits us here in NOLA that wants to visit a plantation during their stay. Viator is the app to use when booking future entertainment during your trip.

  • Waste of time

The Oak Alley plantation is a waste of time, unless you like trees. It is the Mickey Mouse version of slavery.- you see a nice house/mansion and the history of the slavery is glossed over. Don't bother. The Whitney plantation is meant to be a proper account/history of what happened to the slaves on plantation. Go there for a proper history/authentic experience

  • Very disappointed

    - Review from Tripadvisor

We were very disappointed in our trip. The air conditioner in the bus was not working. We had to switch buses which took an hour out of our tour time. We had very limited time at the plantation and do not feel the amount we paid was worth the amount of time we were able to spend at the sight. Also we found the bus driver to a bit obnoxious. He told the people on the bus he would leave without them and took off without even checking on whether or not anyone was missing. He told us he would give us some commentary on the way back, but did not. Nothing. Not even I hope you enjoyed your trip. Overall we were not impressed and do not recommend this trip.
