Katsuren Castle Ruins

Perched on a hill overlooking the eastern coast of Okinawa’s main island, Katsuren Castle offers one of the most scenic views of the island’s historic landscape. Located at the base of Katsuren Castle, the Amawari Park History & Culture Center provides a rich introduction to the region’s history before visitors ascend to the castle ruins. Through interactive exhibits, dioramas, and historical artifacts, the center tells the story of Katsuren's rise as a prosperous port, the life of Lord Amawari, and the everyday customs of the Ryukyuan people.
