Collected from our hitel and very relaxing cruise down the Swan river. Enjoyed the boat then a train and a bus. Excellent tour of the gun tunnels with a very entertaining guide and then the bus took us all over the island with another very knowledgeable guide. Photographed some very cute quokkas and then had time for a cocktail at the pub and some shopping before catching the ferry back to Perth. Had no idea of all the history associated with Rottnest!

0830 depart from Barrack St Jetty. Lovely commentary from Sealink ferry pilot. Very tongue in cheek at times and fun. Arrived in Rottnest after about 90 mins. Smooth until into the open sea but worth it. Rottnest is a gem. Lost of bays etc to explore but we did this tour. Met host Fiona and caught the train to the Big Gun and tunnels. You do get long enough for a guided tour and the guides are excellent and so knowledgeable. Lunch provided (Chicken wrap) and then tour around the island. Passed/stopped many scenic points and bays. Occasional stop for photos or Quokkas although they do not really come out into the open until later. The event of the day was when our driver Fiona had a tyre blowout at Parakeet Bay. As replacement coach was sent for and arrived promptly. Poor Fiona came in for a bit of stick but she was trying to avoid abandoned bikes left by other island visitors. However this gave us a few more minutes at the bay and we were able to see a Stingray swim past. The ferry journey back was a bit choppy but all in all, a fantastic day. A final word for Fiona, thanks for being a great host and giving everyone a great day out.

Referred to menu others Rottnest is certainly a Global Tourist Gem!!! I wasn’t prepared for the very bumpy ferry ride so here’s my advice. If staying in Perth City take a train to Fremantle and take the ferry from there to Rottnest . Firstly the fair on the ferry will be far cheaper and the train journey to Fremantle is only $3.50. Rottnest is just unreal. They advertise bikes a come the island however this is hard work on bikes that are heavy and robust . #The hop-on hop-off bus is fantastic for $30 . Drivers are great guides with Stop 11 the highlight stop for sure . There are good food choices on the island and a full supermarket. If travelling with a group. I lived The Bakery who have a great selection and great coffee. Plenary of sun cream is advised however you cannot beat the scenery . It’s a a photographers dream . I will be back at some stage in my life. Loved it.

Great day out. The whole experience was an inner from the moment we got on the ferry in Perth. The island tour was long, but a lot of fun. we were both glad we did it.
