"Discover the Mission Reach, where contemporary public art along the revitalized San Antonio River tells the cultural stories you'll experience at the UNESCO missions. Learn how the stunning murals and tilework celebrate 300 years of indigenous, Spanish, and Mexican heritage - setting the stage for the authentic colonial stories and cultural legends awaiting at each World Heritage mission site."
Japanese Tea Gardens
We visit the Sunken Garden Theater and Japanese Tea Garden, a serene escape with a layered past. Built in an abandoned limestone quarry in the early 20th century, this site was transformed by local artists and craftsmen into a peaceful cultural space. The Japanese Tea Garden features stone arch bridges, koi ponds, and lush landscaping, originally designed in honor of the Japanese-American community. The nearby Sunken Garden Theater, added in the 1930s, became a beloved outdoor venue for music and cultural performances. Together, these spaces reflect San Antonio’s ability to blend nature, history, and multicultural heritage into something truly lasting.

We highly recommend this tour! Victor was a wonderful tour operator and guide! Very knowledgeable, thoughtful and gracious. The ride was comfortable. We could see and hear well. My husband and I are seniors with mobility issues. Victor could not have been more accomodating. We saw and learned a lot.

This was our last day — and our last tour — in San Antonio. I booked this trip literally at the very last moment before flying to San Antonio, TX, and it was so worth it! The tour was absolutely fabulous from beginning to end. There were snacks, water, fruit, and cookies provided, and Victor even took us to a coffee shop per our request. He is such a caring person! Victor arrived right on time and asked if we had any reservations later in the day. Because of the marathon, many streets were closed or detoured, which affected the tour, so he suggested returning to downtown once the marathon was over. Thankfully, we didn’t have any other plans, and Victor made a few adjustments — changing the order of the stops and even adding a couple of new places that weren’t originally included. We learned so much history about the Spanish missions during these hours. Victor is incredibly intelligent and extremely knowledgeable. He’s engaging without being overwhelming, entertaining, informative, passionate, and clearly an experienced guide with a great sense of humor. On top of this unforgettable experience, Victor also sent us “gift photos” of the missions and “SA family photos” with us at those locations! What a thoughtful touch — such a wonderful idea. I highly recommend booking a tour with Victor. You definitely won’t regret it!

We decided to take our first trip to San Antonio to unwind, explore the city, and celebrate our anniversary. My wife was so thoughtful and booked a tour of the San Antonio missions, knowing how much I love history. Victor was fantastic! He was not only informative and funny but also incredibly engaging. He shared the history and significance of the Spanish missions in a way that made it feel like a fun adventure, not a lecture. He’s incredibly knowledgeable and a highly experienced tour guide. My wife isn’t usually a history buff, but she had a blast on the tour. If you’re in San Antonio and interested in history, I highly recommend booking a tour with Victor. You won’t regret it!

Mr. Victor Martins, Jr. is an awesome tour guide. My wife and I had a blast with him and we learned so much history about the many Spanish missions in the San Antonio area and the Mission San Antonio de Valera , aka The Alamo. I highly recommend this tour guide to all.
