As a local, I’ve driven the road up to Sete Cidades hundreds of times and it still amazes me. The moment the caldera opens up, you see the largest lagoon in the Azores, also known as the green and blue or twin lakes, the village just there, the whole scene cupped inside a dormant volcano… nobody in the van says a word, just stares and gasps. That moment is why I built this Sete Cidades tour at São Miguel.
Our West Coast Tour goes where most tourists reach and never reach, stop at four viewpoints including Vista do Rei, where the abandoned hotel, Monte Palace Hotel, stands above the green and blue lagoons, Boca do Inferno atop the volcano’s rim among others. Descend into the caldera for a local Azorean lunch, where the locals go, and a walk around the blue lagoon after, to let all that food go down smoothly. Small group, no rush, your own rhythm.
Discover the many Lagoons of Sete Cidades. Reach high viewpoints atop volcanic walls.
Public transportation options are available nearby
Specialized infant seats are available
Not recommended for pregnant travelers
Not recommended for travelers with poor cardiovascular health

The remaining time of the Tour is the minimum time driving between our destinations. Don't worry we'll have plenty to see even while driving.
Any options chosen outside the menu for lunch will be charged separately.
Miradouro do Pico do Carvao
Start by driving up to the caldera's wall through a inner road of the island, stop by a viewpoint to see both north and south coastlines and the vast hills and volcanic formations along São Miguel.
Muro Das Nove Janelas
Check the old roman style aqueducts that were used to carry fresh water among western villages since the XVI century, Ponta Delgada was also fed through this infrastructure up until the beginning of the XX century. Check on the popular Nine Windows Wall and the gate, some say, to Narnia!

Ivo was an excellent guide with a wealth of knowledge as he is from the Azores. Any question was answered with passion that helped appreciate the island more. Throughout the Western tour, he safely drove us to each destination, took the best pictures at vantage points, and advocated for our group especially during the lunch buffet which had a lot of options. The dessert was delicious that varies from day to day. We had the flan and rice pudding. For those worried about bathroom use, public bathrooms were available throughout. The van promptly picked us up/dropped off from Hotel Verde Mar in Ribeira Grande. I highly recommend this tour because the locations can be very busy and made the vacation less stressful. We had our own car, but it made the beautiful views of the Azores more enjoyable. You get a chance to explore each area from 15-45 min. Feel free to pack for the beach/pools. I did a quick dip into the pools and just walked around the beach. We would try other tours if our time allowed. The fees are worth the experience. Definitely book with Wildscape Azores Tours!

This was our second tour with Ivo! Ivo was kind enough to reacheduke this tour because of the aeather conditions, to make sure that we we have the best experience! He shared a lot of information about the flora and the fauna of the osland, as well as history and other interesting facts! The viewpoints he took us to were great! The linch was included and there were a lot of pescaterian options for me. I got the impression that Ivo cares a lot about the tours and the participants, and I enjoyed the day with him! 😍

We had a great time, our guide Ivo was very knowledgeable about the island history and made our trip very memorable. Since we were his only guests on this trip due to unexpected cancellations of rest of the guests, we had a private tour with lot of personal attention. I would recommend this tour highly.

I originally booked a tour through GetYourGuide but because of our departure time, Ivo suggested a private tour that we could tailor to fit our needs. He picked us up at our hotel and took us to several overlooks and into the Sete Ciadades region. My travel partner was very interested in the agriculture of the island and we made lots of stops to see the cows. We had the opportunity to meet a local farmer and his dog on our walk on the peninsula. Our guide, Ivo, was very knowledgeable about our visit. We had a great day!
