Hell-Ville
Visit the Local Markets of Hell-Ville! The markets of Hell-Ville, Nosy Be offer an authentic immersion in Malagasy culture, among bright colors, exotic scents and animated bargaining. This is the place where the local people get their supplies! The Indoor Market (Tsena Mora) is a riot of fresh produce, spices and local crafts, while the Outdoor Market (Tsena Ambony) enchants with traditional clothes, fabrics and objects. Bargaining is a must, cash is needed (euro or ariary, the local currency) and respect for local culture is paramount. The market tour is an unforgettable experience to discover the soul of Nosy Be.
Holy Tree by Nosy Be. The sacred tree of Nosy Be, located in the heart of the island, is a place rich in history and cultural significance. It is an imposing banyan tree whose aerial roots form an intricate structure reminiscent of a cathedral. Its history is linked to local traditions and animist beliefs. During the visit, you can admire its impressive size and discover the stories and legends related to this sacred place. The sacred tree of Nosy Be was planted by the queen of the Sakalava tribe in 1836. Even today, the queen of Nosy Be makes a pilgrimage every year to sacrifice a zebu and receive the blessing of the ancestors. Before approaching the tree, you must take off your shoes and, if you have bare legs, you must wear a pareo.

5.00My wife and I chose Madadays for our excursions in Nosy Be and we had a great time! We were able to choose what to see and when, we were provided with the details of each trip and advised on the clothing and the most suitable things to bring. All the guides and drivers were punctual and precise. Every time we were provided with bottled water and for full-day excursions, we also received a hearty lunch. Some excursions were shared in a small group with other tourists, while in others, it was just the two of us! A special mention to Adonis, a guide who accompanied us on two excursions and is truly a fantastic person! Kind, knowledgeable, he always made us feel safe, and chatting with him was a true cultural exchange! 5.00I had only a few days in Nosy be and wasn't sure if I could organise a tour with short notice but this tour came through and I must say I have zero issues. Yonnis and driver were early,super friendly,insightful, and the day was more than I hoped for. If English is your only language then this is the tour for you. Many thanks with a high recommendation.

5.00A great shore excursion to see Nosy Be. Our guide Eunis was very interesting and personable. He told us a lot about Madagascar and life in Nosy Be and showed us all the main sites including a beautiful beach, where we enjoyed a nice cocktail in the sun. Our driver Dino was also excellent. Communication prior to the day was good and clear and it was easy to find the tour operator once we disembarked the ship. Overall a very good day and I would thoroughly recommend this tour for cruise ship clients who want a personal experience and of course don’t want to pay exorbitant ship tour prices!!

5.00Five signed up, so the two couples and I were sent off separately in 3 tuk tuks. My driver guide took me to the sacred tree, a beach at the far end of the island, and up to the mountain lookout where great views. Back to the market where he found an awesome buy of local vanilla beans. Mario was awesome!

5.00We did this tour from our cruise ship. Although we tendered off the island our meeting instructions were clear and it was easy to find our guide who unfortunately had to wait for over an hour for us as immigration were very slow to allow us to depart the ship. The tour was very interesting. We got a really good picture of life on Nosy Be and saw some beautiful and interesting things. Our guide Eunis was very personable and told us much about life in Madagascar. He was a really lovely, intelligent young man who had worked hard to better himself and we wish him well for the future. Our driver Dino was also excellent. I thoroughly recommend this tour for anyone visiting Nosy Be for the day.

4.00We received a message with good details on how to meet Mada Tours outside the “terminal” gate. Note: there isn’t a traditional terminal “building” for passengers. After we found our “greeter,” he walked with us to a nearby street with dozens of tuk-tuks and private vehicles for hire. It seemed chaotic but eventually we were introduced to our guide and our driver for the day.

5.00Our guide Jean Brusto was wonderful. He introduced us to his culture, his music, and some truly different places. We visited the sacred tree, Mount Passo, Lemuria Land, and the beach where we were able to take a short swim. Very pleasant outing.

5.00MadaDays had several private tours booked from our cruise ship, and all seemed to go smoothly. Our guide was a college-educated guide who works in the travel industry and does guide work part-time. He was kind and knowledgeable. The tour was well designed and we saw a lot of the island and its important sites. The scenic vistas and the beaches were impressive. We had a nice lunch were they accepted a credit card. The roads are in excellent condition but narrow and crowded in many parts of the island. Our driver was highly skilled and we felt extremely safe in his hands.

5.00We booked a private shore excursion through Across Africa (agent) with Madadays (provider). It was a a faultless friendly day, from pickup at the port, to the Holy Tree (Wear sturdy shoes for this visit). and various scenic stops at beaches and Mont Passot lookout. The fresh seafood lunch was simple and delicious, with bonus fruit dessert and the owner's pineapple rum (Good price but pay in cash or Euro). The afternoon visit with the lemurs at Lemurialand and its perfume distillery was fascinating. Our guide Bristow (?) could not have been more helpful, telling us about his personal life and the difficulties for youth to step up from the frugal economy and conditions. I highly recommend this private tour, with the Lemurialand extension.
