  • Sweet Escape~ Sweets Class at Kaminarimon Ryokan

I recently stayed at the Kaminarimon ryokan and saw they offered a Japanese nerikiri sweets making class, so I decided to give it a try. It was such a delightful experience! The class was taught by the owner, who gave a beautiful explanation of the ingredients and showed us how to make the sweets step by step. The conversation was engaging, and the whole experience felt really intimate and special. They also had both English and Japanese speaking instruction. At the end of the class, we made matcha tea and enjoyed the sweets we had created. It was truly unforgettable. I highly recommend this class to anyone visiting the Kaminarimon temple who wants to step away from the crowds for a calm and unique treat. Thank you to the wonderful instructor for making this experience so special!

I experienced Japanese sweets because I thought I had never touched them properly, but I really enjoyed them! I didn't think that Japanese sweets made by craftsmen are so delicate, and I was able to spend a fulfilling time realizing that Japanese cultural sweets are good once again! I recommend it because it is very easy to experience.^ ^

The instructor, Eiyo Master, teaches everything in a fun and gentle way—no skills needed at all! It’s a great chance to experience traditional Japanese culture from scratch. You’ll get to enjoy the freshly made wagashi (Japanese sweets), and truly feel the beauty and delicacy of Japanese craftsmanship. The location is also perfect—it’s right in front of the famous Kaminarimon gate of Sensoji Temple in Asakusa. It’s the ideal activity to join while sightseeing. Highly recommended! Don’t miss this unique experience!

I was moved and healed by the beautiful kneading. The craftsmen will teach you how to make it from scratch right in front of your eyes, and even first-timers can try it out. I would definitely recommend it because it is a delight to have finished and it is so delicious to actually eat.

I participated in the Japanese sweets making experience. The teacher taught me beautiful Japanese sweets that feel the season, one by one, and even I, a beginner, was able to make them happily. It looked so good that I couldn't believe I made it myself, and the content was very satisfying. The finish is perfect for souvenirs and was well received by families. It was a valuable experience to experience Japanese culture firsthand and I hope to participate again. If you are interested in Japanese sweets, I really recommend it!

I joined because I was intrigued by the fact that it was a Japanese sweets class organized by a ryokan. There were many foreign tourists, but even I, a Japanese, enjoyed it. I had the image of making Japanese sweets for women, but I, as a man, could get used to it and lost track of time. The history and history of Japanese sweets explained by the instructor Eiyo is also interesting and worth a look!
