Kochi Castle
Known as "the best castle on the Nankaido (road)," is a symbol of Kochi City. Currently, there are only 12 castles from the pre-Edo period in Japan, but Kochi Castle is one of the most precious castles. The current main tower was rebuilt in August 1747. The greatest feature of Kochi Castle is that the cohesive entirely of the main building group, with the Tenshu, Goten, and Corridor Bridge, all being completely present along with the stone wall and so on. The gazebo on the top floor of the castle tower overlooks Kochi city.
Hirome Ichiba
Large hall with food stalls from around 40 various restaurants, plus souvenir shops and other shops. Perhaps you will enjoy some of the famous “Katsuo Tataki,” which is seared bonito fish. It is recommended that you put salt and sliced garlic on it before tasting. Do enjoy the local foods unique to Kochi.

5.00An extremely excellent day spent with Peach. She is very knowledgeable about the local history and clearly loved sharing it with me. We took several taxis to move around Kochi - I would recommend this to save time. Peach is a real asset to the Kochi tourist system. Thank you Peach.

5.00Kumiko was a real experience. Because of her age and life experiences, she was able to share knowledge and stories most other guides cannot. She gave real color to every place we went. She loved taking pictures of us as much as we did of her and the places she guided us to. She led us like a grandmother showing her places to her family. Great day with her.

4.00Kochi is a smaller city than many of Japans stops. We used the cruise shuttle bus to meet our guide Geoffrey at the local bus terminal. He was ready for us with day pass Kochi transportation on buses and trams. We began by bus to the Makino Botanical Gardens. It was a beautiful spring day to walk the gardens. On a rainy day we would have found it not nearly as pleasant and note that this was a major part of the tour. The greenhouse was large with many plant species. The Chikurin-ji Temple a lovely pagoda style building. We walked to the Kochi Castle, but elected not to climb the 8 stories of stairs since we had just climbed elevation to get there! Our highlight was actually the downtown food court where we sampled many different Japanese specialties including whale, eel and chicken. Geoffrey’s English was perfect and he definitely helped facilitate logistics to the suggested sites which perhaps aren’t what the larger cities offer for the cost of the tour. He was great to offer any shopping experiences we may want and we enjoyed the personal answers to our questions.
