Mā‘alaea is a centuries-old Hawaiian fishing village—once home to a prominent heiau and one of the island’s largest collections of petroglyphs—whose canoe landing served as a portal to Maui for Hawaiian kings and warriors.

Check in at The Historic Maalaea General Store, Built in 1910. It was constructed by the Maui Dry goods and Grocery Company to serve the local fishing community and employees of the Wailuku Sugar Company. The store is the oldest surviving wood-frame building associated with the Japanese fishing community that developed in Maalaea Village.

Great trip with Captain Jonathan & First mate Ben! My hubby & I were tired of the crowds on some of the whale watches, so we checked out Hawaii Nautical's power boat trip. The boat holds 6 people and had plenty of room for all to spread out and enjoy. Whales were all around us as we cruised around out from the Maalaea Harbor. Great time with great folks...It was memorable for sure!

The crew was great! Very friendly. We got to see many whales. The boat was very nice. I am glad we only had 6 people. Very personal. It was nice to not be with a bunch of strangers.

Jon and Shelby were great fun and helpful. We were early in the migration season, seeing only three distant whale pods. But, we had a beautiful, calm day to be on the water. Very nice, clean and well-maintained Boston Whaler all to ourselves!

I had a wonderful time on this outing. I was solo and the captain and crew member included me in conversation the whole time. They were both knowledgeable and personable. I also really appreciate that the outfit didn’t cancel on me due to low bookings, as I was the only paying guest.

Captain Ryan and Zade provided an awesome experience for my family. Both were terrific with a ton of knowledge to share. Tremendous value overall with all of the feel of a private charter at a fraction of the cost. Got us up close in a professional manner that was never a nuisance to the whales and did not obstruct their path in the least. Well mannered, friendly and professional service from beginning to end. Highly recommend.

This Capt and his mate were first class all day. They took every effort to show they truly cared about us and getting LOTS of whale sightings. True professionals. If you plan on taking a whale sightings tour, do not pass this team up!

Captain Spencer and Gabriel were amazing! We saw whales the entire time we were with them. They gave us background on whale behaviors and in many cases explained how the mother was teaching her new baby. It was absolutely beautiful. We highly recommend!! (They also have snorkeling excursions available)

So worth the $$. Captain Greg and his 1 st mate we're fantastic. Very kind and welcoming. We saw lots of whales and at the end a spectacular double breach!!!

Spencer and Konou were great. They were so knowledgeable and not only did we see lots of whales but we learned so much. The boat was great. Super stable even for someone with motion sickness. Can’t recommend enough.
