Mā‘alaea is a centuries-old Hawaiian fishing village—once home to a prominent heiau and one of the island’s largest collections of petroglyphs—whose canoe landing served as a portal to Maui for Hawaiian kings and warriors.

Check in at The Historic Maalaea General Store, Built in 1910. It was constructed by the Maui Dry goods and Grocery Company to serve the local fishing community and employees of the Wailuku Sugar Company. The store is the oldest surviving wood-frame building associated with the Japanese fishing community that developed in Maalaea Village.

We booked this trip via the Westin. We were looking for something more calm and sedate than a party boat with 50 strangers! We shared the cruise with one other couple and it was a lovely experience, getting out on the water and watching the sun slip below the horizon. We got to see some of those party boats, and it just reinforced the choice we made. The crew was awesome, making sure we were comfortable and well cared for, but also sharing tips and history of the area. If you are looking for a relaxing sunset cruise, this is the place.

We LOVED our experience, it was everything we hoped for. John and Walker were excellent. They were so engaging with us and our son with autism, who can take some time to warm up. We chose this boat because it was for small groups, large groups overwhelm our son. It was perfect! We had the most amazing view of the sunset and relaxed the evening away. Our sons favorite part was fishing with Walker and going fast! We really had a great time. This felt very personal unlike other tours where you are just one of many. HIGHLY recommend!!! Thanks guys!

We booked a second trip with Hawaii Nautical this past week in Maui. This trip was a sunset cruise. The sunset was amazing with individualized attention from the crew. It was a bit windy and chilly so make sure to bring a jacket or sweatshirt. Mostly, we idled or drifted so this is not a fast moving trip. This cruise is definitely for those who enjoy the boating experience, not the party experience. The sunset views of the coast of Maui and neighboring islands were beautiful. Worth the trip!! Make sure you bring those appetizers and cocktails as they a not provided but soda/water is available.

It’s hard to pick out a single “best” experience in Maui, because it’s such a special place. But if I had to pick one, it would be this cruise. This was truly one of the best vacation experiences we’ve ever had from start to finish. We were lucky enough to be captained by Spencer and Ben, whose knowledge and expertise were only matched by their charisma. They were beyond accommodating, navigating us through a whirlwind of amazing views during our time and ensuring we had the most special experience possible. I wish I could give this more than 5 stars, because it’s what it deserves. If you’re looking for a single nautical adventure in Maui to make your vacation the best it can be, this is the one!!

Must do this sunset tour. Beautiful boat and very comfortable. Captain and Co-captain were all around amazing. Connected my playlist to the very nice boat sound system, and jammed our way around the waters. Will do again next time we visit.

Amazing, this was the highlight of the trip worth every penny the Captain and his Co caption were very knowledgeable, we saw plenty of whales and a beautiful sunset everything was perfect. Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for something more intimate for you and your family.

The team was so sweet and accommodating, loved them. The views were beautiful and the intimacy of the boat made the experience so much better. We even got to see a view whales and of course a beautiful sunset. 10/10 would recommend can’t wait to come back and see them again

My husband found this tour by accident and what a great find! We started our 10 day stay in Maui with this Sunset Cruise. It was so fabulous that we decided to do it again on our last night. What better way to say goodbye to a beautiful island. Our first trip out was with Captain Gray and Gabriel. We checked in at the general store. Here we were given credit for food & drink. Captain Gray met us at The Maalaea General Store & took us to the boat where we were introduced to Gabriel. The 42ft Boston Whaler is a clean, comfortable & spacious boat. We happen to be the only ones on the cruise that evening. Even if they had full capacity of 6 people (plus crew), there was plenty of room to move about and sit comfortably. It was so refreshing to be away from crowds and enjoy time on the water. We were offered non alcoholic beverages and chips. We enjoyed conversation with Captain Gray & Gabriel as they tried to seek out whales for us. Gabriel was very knowledgeable about the whales and shared a lot of good information with us. It was a beautiful evening. On our last night in Maui we took another sunset cruise on the Amore. Spence was our captain for the evening and we were happy to see that Gabriel was on the cruise again with us. This time we drove up along the shoreline. Captain Spence talked about the area & gave us information about the land. He was very knowledgable & passionate about the island. Captain Spence & Gabriel also made it their mission to see the whales (Thank you to both of you!). The whales were very active this evening (it is whale season). At one point, we were surrounded by whales! We weren’t sure where to look. A mom & her calf came right to the boat and swam below. Whales were breaching in the distance and one was slapping their tail. We were all so busy watching the whales we almost forgot to look at the amazing sun setting. Captain Spence & Gabriel made sure we didn’t miss that. It was just beautiful. The winds had picked up & it was a little choppy. Though, it wasn’t a problem with Captain Spence "at the helm" of this Boston Whaler. The Amore handled the choppy water like a dream. We had some spray on us a couple times as we headed back in. They gave us towels and made sure we were positioned safely on the boat as we continued to take photos. They truly provide top notch, professional service. If you are in Maui, you won't want to miss this opportunity. Spoil yourself & cruise aboard the Amore for a beautiful Maui sunset!
