It was a great experience, far beyond my expectations. I knew that Matsue Castle is one of only five national treasures in Japan, and that it is still preserved as it was 400 years ago. "However, it was only when I actually walked with my guide that I discovered the secrets of architecture, such as ""Why could I build it so quickly?"" and the many ingenious defensive devices that led to it being called the ""mighty castle."" If I had visited without a guide, I would have never noticed anything. Even more impressive was the castle itself. It tells the story of Matsudaira Fumaiko, a leader who rebuilt a domain (local government) that had 50 billion yen in debt with today’s money and is still loved by citizens 400 years later. I was deeply moved by this story of leadership and passion that transcends time and borders. It's a truly valuable tour that brings both knowledge and inspiration home. I really recommend it.
