5.00We had a fantastic private tour of Himeji castle with Ryuji. We were given an engaging history of the castle, the town and the owners of the castle. Ryuji was professional, witty and fun. We learnt so much about the castle. We also appreciated Ryuji’s recommendations for lunch and future destinations for us to visit.

With years of experience, she brought the castle to life, pointing out the most fascinating details, sharing stories we never would have known on our own, and answering every one of our questions with so much patience and enthusiasm. On top of that, she took incredible photos of us throughout the day, truly some of our favorites from the entire trip. Her warmth, expertise, and passion made our experience unforgettable. 5.00Ryuji was such a fun guide! He told us all about the history of the castle, was very knowledgeable, his English was great and took great pics of us. We talked and laughed the whole time. He also gave us a great lunch recommendation after! Great time!

5.00Himeji Castle is an extraordinary place, well worth the day trip. But the even more pleasant surprise was Ryuji, our guide. He was knowledgeable, thoughtful, funny, and patient, as we worked our way slowly through the castle and grounds. He wove a great tale, shedding light on the history of the place, and the nature of its design. He’s also knowledgeable about today’s Himeji, and he gave a great bakery recommendation as well! I can’t recommend Ryuji highly enough.

5.00Ryuji is a local who grew up near the castle (you can see his high school from the higher grounds of Himeji Castle) and gave us a knowledgeable tour of its history and provenance in Japan’s lore. His style is friendly and informal, so it was like being shown around by a friend. There were 4 of us and after, he helped two of us catch a cab by leading us to the taxi area and making sure the driver could take us to our next destination which was a town 40 minutes away and off the beaten path of most tourists. He then ran back to answer questions from our two remaining friends still at the castle.
