  I have completed 3-day jungle track in Jan 2026. I have traveled with my husband and friend and we booked a private tour. We paid a bit extra for this as it was only 3 of us but we enjoyed it. Also, as we were on a short break from Singapore and visited Sumatra exclusively for this trek I asked Sumatra Orangutan Trekking to organize the whole trip for us (including a private transport from and to the airport) as well the accommodation. They did amazing job and made the complete trip smooth. The communication with these people is pure joy. Every single employee we had contact with was so helpful, respectful and did more than we would expect or ask for to make our experience wonderful and comfortable. I cannot thank them enough! The trek itself was an unforgettable experience! The overall organization was great. We had 2 guides with us and the third guy would be in camps before us, prepare our jungle accommodation, meals etc ahead. Guides of different groups are constantly in contact, based on info where animals are spotted and a group fitness level your guide will decide which paths to take through the jungle. The jungle is humid and some paths have intense ups and downs, but overall it is not that demanding. I guess after the rain it could be harder as paths get slippery. Camps were basic, but decent and food was delicious (we choose vegetarian option)! Before this trip I assumed that if we take 3-day trek, we would be more isolated from other groups compared to 1-day or 2-day treks. But this is not really the case. It is quit busy in the jungle. This is not really wild experience. But, you will see a lot of animals in wildness. Some will keep a good distance from you (wild orangutans and gibbons were high in trees) but small monkeys would come close enough. We did encounter one of the orangutans that was used to people, so he did come quite close, but there were a lot of people around so we preferred the first encounter when they were further away but totally wild. We were really happy with overall experience. It was very relaxing and peaceful. I would recommend everyone this trek. I am planning to return and choose even a longer trek next time. And I will definitely stay longer in the area as the village itself is lovely. I will definitely choose Sumatra Orangutan Trekking to lead my way through jungle again! Thanks a lot for everything!

• Potential to be great but a few disappointing moments

  The tour was organised well, they collected us from our hotel in Medan and organised accommodation for us in Bukit Lewang. The tour was fun, saw loads of monkeys, got to see a few birds and snakes. The food was very good, and so we're the guides. We did notice that the orangutans we saw were semi wild. Our group, and everyone we met in the jungle saw the same orangutan 20 minutes into the tour on day 1. The guides secretly placed food on the trees near the tourists so the orangutan would come close for photos, which isn't very ethical. After we got our orangutan sightings ticked off the guides seemed to try a lot less to find animals, which was disappointing. There was an older orangutan seen at our camp on the last day but she looked very sick and possibly sedated. It seemed like a local was her "owner" who brings her to the camp for the tourists. This is what it seemed like but the guides obviously denied it when we asked, but she did not look ok. Finally we organised transport to our next stop but this was a disaster. The driver refused to drop us to our accommodation and we had to search the town late at night after 6 hours of travel for an available room. The organisers refused to refund us for this room which was a shame since we had no other choice and the driver wouldn't take us any further. Wish I could give a better review but want to be honest for future customers.

  From the beginning we felt very well looked after. From arrival to trekking to departure everything worked out perfectly. The agreement on Whats App was clear and without problems.

  The most amazing experience, and so heartwarming how the much both the company and the guides respect the jungle and all animals in it. I had the most wonderful time with tour guides Brem and Risky and the tour guide Roger was also amazing!!! They went above and beyond to not only educate us on their jungle, but also made the experience really fun. I would love to go back, it was the best way to spend Christmas :)

  

  

  

  

  

• Amazing experience

  Just finished our three-day trip with Waka and his team, and it honestly was an incredible experience. We saw lots of wildlife from the get-go, including orangutans on the first morning and throughout. We were even lucky enough to see a large alpha male up close. Waka spoke fantastic English, answered any questions we had, and looked after us even after we left the jungle. Suki, the chef, did an amazing job—the food was incredible, and we were provided with more than enough each day. We were also treated to fresh fruit throughout the hikes. The base camps are basic, as you would expect out in the jungle, but they really added to the experience. Be warned you need lots of mosquito repellent for both mosquitoes and leeches. 5/5 — a fantastic experience.

  

  

  

  

  

• Exciting jungle adventure

  Our small group had a wonderful experience in the jungle. Kiran our guide was great in spotting the Oran Utans and other Monkeys even when day were hiding due to the rain. The camps are very basic but the oder everything you need for the few days in the jungle. The evening we spend playing cards and laughing and enjoying the fascinating stories from the jungle. During the days we were offered options multiple times whether we want to focus more on trekking, animals or relaxing at the campsites.

  We had the most incredible experience, we can’t say enough good things. The trek itself was breathtaking. We saw over 10 orangutans throughout our trek, including two males and several mothers with their babies, in addition to numerous other monkeys and birds, including Hornbills. Our guides were everything you could hope for and more—brilliant, kind, funny, patient, and such a pleasure to be around. They were excited and eager to share endless information about the jungle animals and plant life, which was so appreciated. They also encouraged us to spend as much time as we wanted observing the orangutans. The food we had on the trek was also SO GOOD! They must do an insane amount of work behind the scenes to create the most amazing and pleasurable experience. We slept by rivers both nights and had cozy, relaxed evenings. On our second day we encountered a turtle with a fishing hook stuck in its mouth, and Amri and Roji took the time to remove the hook. I’d say what meant the most to me on the trip was seeing how much our guides cared about the environment—how much it seemed they were “checking on” the animals, paying attention to make sure guests were respectful of them, picking up any small pieces of trash they passed, and even saving a turtle! The whole company is incredible- Dedek was extremely communicative with us weeks prior to us even leaving for our trip, ensuring that all the details of our trip were thought through and taken care of. We had a late arrival in Medan and he made sure we had a private car to bring us to Bukit Lawang that evening, and the same for our departure. On our final day in Sumatra, Dedek organized for us to do a tour to see the worlds largest flower with another guide, Rei, and that was also amazing. Our driver throughout the trip, Herman, was awesome. I truly can’t emphasize enough how good of a job this company does, and how stellar their employees are. If you end up on a trek with Amri and Roji, I’m jealous! We adore these guys.   Had the best time with Sumatra orangutan trekking!! My husband and I did the 3 day, 2 night trek and were in a group with 3 other people. We saw all of the wildlife that we’d hope to see. Our guide, Dani, was the best. He was so knowledgeable and passionate about the jungle and the animals and his energy was incredible. The guides and other workers truly take care of you - the food is amazing and we were never hungry. Campsite beds are bare bones, but that’s to be expected while camping in the jungle :). Dani knew we were looking for a physical challenge, so he did take us through some challenging routes which added to the adventure. I would recommend communicating with your guide ahead of time about how challenging of a trek you’re looking for and they can adjust based on your fitness level/what you’re looking for. They also arranged airport transportation and pre-trek accommodation for us and the whole process was so easy and convenient. I cannot say enough good things about Sumatra Orangutan Trekking - wish I could go back and do it all over again!

  

  

  

• Amazing Jungle Trek — A Must-Do Adventure for Jungle Fans!

  This 3-day / 2-night jungle trek was unforgettable! The team truly respects the animals and the environment, which made the experience feel meaningful and responsible. There are many Teams also from other companies in the Jungle and all the Teams work together, which makes the probability of findling Orang Utans higher, but it also can create situations, where quite a lot of people are grouped next to an Orang Utan. As our Guide Nasir was very good at finding Orang Utans, we founded ~50% of the Orang Utans on our own and had some time next to them with our small group. Overall, our guides, Nasir and Justin, were knowledgeable, fun, and made us feel safe the whole time. Very open minded guys with respect for nature, women and men. The food cooked by Indra was delicious! Great breakfast Sandwiches, Tea and Coffee with Fried bananas or bisquits, Dinner with various Currys, Soups or other traditional meals. Do not underestimate the fitnesslevel you need, especially for the Trips with one or more nights in the Jungle. Overall, a fantastic experience that I highly recommend.   An extraordinary experience with a really great team! Thanks a thousand times to our guide untu Nasir, our assistant guide Baby Justin, our cook Mama Jungle (Indra) and Dedek for the organization! ☺️🙏🏻 the whole team is great ☺️🥰🙏🏻 And the 3-day trekking was fantastic 🥰🤩 we had the chance to meet 8 orang outang, a giant Argus, gabbons, etc magic!
